I don't mind steam since the DRM is pretty minimal on a day to day basis but if I have a choice I buy GOG every time. Or some other DRM free outlet like the Humble Store is for some games.

And GOG has recently added a (totally optional) client for easy downloads/installs/updates etc that works pretty well. So even the convenience gap has narrowed with steam in that regard.

But I try to support GoG when possible. I like their business model, the GoG community is friendly, and the extras that usually come with the games (soundtrack, artwork, etc.) are pretty cool too.

I should also say that I trust GoG more than steam for olde games because they seem to be doing a lot more to make sure that the game is functional on modern hardware and operating systems.

Steam has been known to just put stuff out there and will leave games up for sale that essentially don't work on the last 3 versions of Windows.

I am fully aware of Gog Galaxy and still stand by my prior statements. I have a decent sized Gog library, but will get the game on Steam every time unless Gog has it on sale and Steam doesn't.

While I'm the other way around (GOG over Steam), I clearly don't have the outright contempt for the service some here do. I think both are good in their own ways.

EDIT: Also... I'm scarily approaching 1000 Steam games. Thanks, random bundles with games I'll never play... not unlike my GOG library, but at least that number is more manageable!

My GoG library is a little larger than my Steam library but it's pretty close.

When a game is on GOG.com and Steam there is no compelling reason to get the Steam version. DRM-free > DRM.

The best things about Steam are their massive selection, low prices, and frequent sales. The DRM aspect is undeniably shitty.

It's a bit of an apples-to-oranges comparison, as the GOG and Steam libraries don't overlap that much.
