Still been meaning to check this out, I hear it's very faithful and have only heard great things. I'm stoked.
It's really freakin' good. Any fan of old-school sci-fi war anime will be floored by that series.

I thought the 2014 series "Break Blade" was pretty good for mecha stuff:

Need to check that one out. I haven't really paid much attention to the anime scene recently. I heard some good things about the current Gundam as well.

The best "mecha" related anime I've seen in the past few years besides Break Blade, was the Expelled from Paradise film:

Other recent mecha related anime that's worth investigating: To keep this thread on track, I have never had any interest in Splatoon.

Oh man that game caught my attention right from the start. I love stuff that's distinctly Nintendo.

Splatoon is great if you like team based third person shooters (and like things that are wacky and unique), but the single player is super meh, and the local multiplayer is absolute balls.

I only know one person in real life who owns a Wii U. My eleven year old nephew. So I've played some Wii U games using his system. Never been too impressed.

Anyway, one of the games he owns is Splatoon. The last time I saw him, he was playing an arena shooter, but it wasn't Splatoon. He was playing Pixel Gun 3D on his Android tablet. I asked him why he was playing Pixel Gun World instead of Splatoon. He said Pixel Gun World was better, because you got to shoot real bullets. Regardless of his reasoning, he was having more fun playing a free mobile game on an $80 Android tablet, than he did playing a $49.99 game on a $299.00 console.

Draw whatever inferences you will, but if I were a parent of younger kids I know where my money would go.

Actually one of the jokes about Splatoon is that it was made with kids in mind, but all the kids want to play Call of Duty, and all of the adults that are supposedly playing Call of Duty are the ones who are actually playing Splatoon.

It's funny. My brother is the "hardcore modern gamer" type who's into Tomb Raider, Bioshock, Assassin's Creed, Dragon Age, Borderlands, etc. but the only console he owns is the Wii U. And before that he had a Wii. His rationale is that all the non-Nintendo stuff he's into he can just get on PC so there's no point in purchasing a PS4 or Xbone.

And yeah I have a sneaking suspicious that all these modern "kiddy" Nintendo games are more popular with adults who grew up with Nintendo than they are with actual kids.

I work with a guy who said the exact same thing about the Wii era. He played all the western stuff on PC, but got his Japanese fix through the Wii. Makes sense enough.

I have been believing this for quite a while. I mean with my own daughter I tried to get her into Nintendo as a kid. She had a SNES and a GameCube with lots of Nintendo games. She enjoyed them. But now she's almost 18, and she doesn't care whatsoever to play Nintendo games.* I feel like she developed no loyalty to the brand at all despite my influence.

*The most recent game I saw her playing on her iPhone was The Silent Age.

She has good taste. (I have this on my iPad, and I have been meaning to get to it.)

Also, Splatoon is pretty fun. I really should spend some more time with it, but I am just not a fan of competitive shooting games. (I enjoyed that one about as much as any.)
