King's Field IV is probably the best to start with. It's the most easy to digest graphically anyway. So far King's Field III has been seriously epic though, it impresses me more and more the further I get into it (eleven hours in now).
If you want an adventure game you can beat in about 30 minutes:

Who do you have in mind?
Jordan Mechner, maybe? Tim Schafer? Daisuke Amaya? I haven't really decided yet.

Maniac Mansion and Secret Of Monkey Island should be top of the list if you haven't yet.
I have beaten both of those, and they are both great. I am thinking...Broken Sword, Day of the Tentacle, Grim Fandango, Gabriel Knight, LeChuck's Revenge, and possibly a few more. I received an IPad recently, and there are a ton of great adventure games available in the App Store. The games also play wonderfully with touch controls. (I always likes adventure games, but since I am primarily a console gamer, I haven't played through some of the classics.)

Thanks! I'll look into it. I am thinking about firing up The Quiet Collection (WII U) soon. It is a collection of four 15-30 minute adventure games by a developer I like, and it sounds absolutely charming.
1. Finish the Fatal Frame series
2. Beat System Shock 1 and 2
3. Beat all three SNES Fire Emblems as well as all three versions of Fates
4. Stop spending money I don't have on video games via impulse buys (my Achilles' heel)
Play more game on NES than any other platform... oh, wait. I don't think that will be an issue.
No, my only resolution this year is going to be to not be as indecisive about what I play. I'm going to try to override those feelings of "I could be playing something else potentially better" or "I'm not playing the right game". Did it last night with Paper Jam. Had so many games I wanted to get to, but I just decided, nope, gonna stick with one.
Another one of mine is not to shy away from replaying games if I really want to play it. I've been wanting to replay Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn for a few years, but I haven't because the damn backlog always looms over me. This year, I'll endeavor not to let that stop me from replaying games I love.
I've been meaning to craft these myself so a timely bump for today as I've had some time to think more on it.
1. Continue to fund physical game purchases, outside of current gen sales and digital, by refining and selling off my own collection (or giftcards).
This is really what my NO GAME NEW YEAR morphed into last year. Any online purchases either from here or eBay were from a positive paypal balance from my own sales. Outside of that, I usually did the bulk of my purchases around Black Friday sales - grabbing remasters and definitive editions (PS4 mainly) - or using gift cards/points. Digital purchases (multiplatform PSN, eShop sales, PSOne deals, etc etc) are my achilles heel, but I've accepted that with the other restraints in place.
2. Finish off my last gen physical collecting - PS3/360/Wii
This one is actually pretty close. In fact, after I procured Kingdom Hearts 2.5 Remix, I thought I was done with physical PS3 titles, but Street Fighter X Tekken is the sole remaining game on my wishlist (PS3 was my go-to for all fighting games that gen as we played there for Racket groups plus I've got the cool hori pad). I've been putting a focus on 360 already this year, and my XBLA library is done after getting Triggerheart Exelica and Bangai-O (and exhausting the Indie library). I've also managed to avoid any of those garish 360 platinum hits all white spines with the plain text. I'm not opposed to Platinum Hits as long as the spine art is still the same. I've got my 360 shmup library one title away (or two depending how you define Project Slypheed) as i've been grabbing the JP games that work on NTSC systems. The Wii probably has the shortlist that changes the most as we share stuff here. 12 titles left on mine at the moment.
3. See the Wii U through
The Wii U was the first system I ever bought at launch so my physical library is pretty stocked (first party favorites, etc.). There are some physical titles I want to grab vs. my digital versions, but right now my wishlist there is just 9 titles (not including ones not released yet).
4. Boost the 3DS/DS library
This is really slanted towards the idea that in 3-4 years, my daughter and I can share this. So i've started ticking off first party unique DS games that i want to stockpile. I never had the DS system in its prime (I did get a 3DS in late 2011) but have a smattering of good games and plenty of hardware (one DSiXL, one regular 3DS and my New 3DS XL). My 3DS library is pretty good and plenty first party heavy with most of the out of stock titles that just soared due to limited quantities.
5. Keep the other misc collecting going
I love PS4/Vita crossbuys to pump up my Vita digital library. Same with PSOne collecting through PSN. There are some subsets I have tracked - Tecmo Bowl games, NFL Blitz library and NBA Jam games where I havent spent a lot of focus in recent years.
6. Tracking
I've been updating wishlists and my library over at RFGeneration and will keep on top of that again this year.
