Re: 2016 gaming goals and resolutions
Mine mostly involve focusing in on the stuff I really like and letting other things go, while trying not to feel like I am somehow missing out.
1. Sell my NES and SMS that I bought in 2015 and have barely touched since then. Give serious thought to selling the Genesis and SNES (not sure I'm ready for that just yet).
2. Finish games I started, actually like quite a bit, but have kind of abandoned for some reason (Witcher 3, Rogue Galaxy, Diablo 3, Metro series...)
3. Stop buying so many damned games on Steam/GoG sales that I know I'll probably never play just because they are hugely discounted.
4. Play more Pokemon - I just kind of discovered the series this year and have LOVED playing Alpha Sapphire on 3DS. I have acquired X and SoulSilver too...
5. Find time to play some games with a new baby.

Re: 2016 gaming goals and resolutions
I think you did #2 due to #5. That's my problem, my 4 year old girl eats the time up when she's awake and home from school, and then the later hours before bed aren't much with other stuff to do too so things just slip as other interests (or games) pop up.
I also had/have your #3 problem. I used to buy cheap humble bundles 3-4 years ago, forced a cold turkey on it as I didn't want most the junk. I did it just once this year, over 20 Neo Geo ROM sets and I like at least 1/2 the games so that was worth it. GoG though the last couple of season sales kicked my ass as I've never usually got more than a game or two and I grabbed up partial or bundles with singles and probably blew $50-60+ between the fall/winter runs. I've used the stuff a little, emphasis much on little for a good bit of it. Some though was just to have functional backups (iD 2D shooters+quake) though or to replace me not having to use Steam (the Ys package.) I think until I clear some of those games I'll ignore the sales going forward unless it's a single title on my short wish list.

I'm afraid that these two resolutions are contradictory. The Mother series is not sufficiently entertaining.Exhuminator wrote:My gaming resolutions for 2015 were to start dropping games if they weren't sufficiently entertaining, and also to start playing the Mother series.
Too true.Exhuminator wrote:I've seen the series hyped to such a degree over the years that I know I'm just going to be disappointed.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Nice modern gaming goals. What happened to Mother?!?! *sniffle*

You know what games are great for a new baby? Sega games. You might just want to keep that SMS and Genesis so that your precious little baby can learn to be a deadly shinobi. It teaches baby manual dexterity, like how to throw shurikens at your enimies' throats. Give your child the headstart he/she really needs. Imagine starting the first day of kindergarten knowing more about the deadly art of ninjutsu than any of the classmates. Straight to the head of the class for this one... by any means necessary.marlowe221 wrote:Mine mostly involve focusing in on the stuff I really like and letting other things go, while trying not to feel like I am somehow missing out.

Best of luck with the new baby. I got in some good gaming the first couple of months when they're in their "potato" stage (even had to watch clinching my right arm hitting buttons while holding her while asleep).marlowe221 wrote: 5. Find time to play some games with a new baby.

Re: 2016 gaming goals and resolutions
1. Focus my buying by using a list of my most wanted games for each platform, instead of just buying things as and when I think about it.
2. For every series I own 2 or more unbeaten games for, beat at least 1 game in that series. As of the start of January, this includes:
Age of Empires
Atelier
Danganronpa
Dragon Quest
Fire Emblem
Final Fantasy
Harvest Moon
Kingdom Hearts
Mario & Luigi
Mario Golf
Prinny
Shinobi
Sonic the Hedgehog
Valis
Wave Race
Ys
Zelda
3. Beat at least one game for every major console I own. Exceptions for more obscure consoles like Pokemon Mini.
4. Finish the year with less unbeaten games than I started the year with. This isn't a big objective necessarily, but I plan on buying quite a lot this year, so it'll require me to finish quite a lot of stuff.
5. Try and keep my game spending to less than £100 on average per month.

Re: 2016 gaming goals and resolutions
Since we are now 1 month into 2016, I decided to write up some gaming goals for this year:
.....
Complete my Atari 7800, PS3, and Xbos 360 collections. (I need 15 Atari 7800 games, 25 PS3 games, and 19 Xbox 360 games, and only two of the 7800 games will be expensive.)
Complete my collection of digital games for the Xbox 360. (I only want seven more digital games for that system: Crysis, Dishwasher DS, Dishwasher VS, Geometry Wars 3, Mark of the Ninja, Radiant Silvergun, and Shadow Complex.)
Complete two more sub-sets of Atari 2600 games.
Photograph my game collections.
Beat ten classic games on my "to beat" list.
Beat all of the games created by at least one "auteur" game designer.
Beat all of the retail 2D platformers available for the Wii U.
Beat five adventure games.
Beat The Seventh Saga.
Beat a game in the King's Field series.
.....
Wish me luck!

Yes.Photograph my game collections.
David Cage? (Though he might be a bit adult for younger eyes in your household...)Beat all of the games created by at least one "auteur" game designer.
Who do you have in mind?
Maniac Mansion and Secret Of Monkey Island should be top of the list if you haven't yet.Beat five adventure games.
You are guided by a force much greater than luck.Wish me luck!
