RPG Progress Report
Re: RPG Progress Report
Probably sounds even worse on the EverDrive. Man, I hope someone gets the sound on that working right soon.

Re: RPG Progress Report
I like dungeon crawlers but LoG felt pretty soul-less. There's no story, no dungeon flavoring just the same dungeon walls all the way through. It felt like an unfinished game to me. I think if you're going to make a game based entirely about the dungeon crawling and forgo any kind of character or story building you need a distinctive style yet it doesn't and just plods along for hour after hour.

Moving through Zelda quickly. At the final dungeon (of the first quest, that is).
Man it feels easy this time. A (very) small part is due to the fact that the FDS original is objectively easier than the NES game. Dungeons contain less enemies, and Pols Voice can be killed instantaneously with the mike.
I also played through the NES game as recently as October so everything is still fresh. That certainly helps!
(Has anyone thought about how inappropriately easy dungeon 7 is? No wizzrobes or darknuts - what?!)

This is starting to remind me how the US version of Dragon Warrior was a drastic improvement over the original. I think we're so used to seeing localizations from this era getting edited and/or censored that this feels... odd.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Moving through Zelda quickly. Re: RPG Progress Report

Here's a crappy picture of a wind demon in the Wind Palace.
They can uppercut you, do a double elbow drop on you, and slice you up with wind shear spells.
Friendly dudes.
I attempted to complete the Wind Palace in King's Field III today. Didn't quite work out.
The Wind Palace is massive as expected, and as I made my way through it, I noticed there are a lot of sealed treasure chests. So I'm wondering how to open these chests, and then I realize throughout the Wind Palace there are these crystals on pillars. So I shoot one of these crystals with a fireball, and poof a fire appears inside the crystal.
Ah-ha, I think, if I light all these crystals the seals will break on the treasure chests and it's loot city. So I spent about an hour killing monsters and seeking out the crystals and lighting them. Finally I think I have all the crystals lit, but just at the very end I find one crystal left. And guess what. I'm out of freaking magic points. No! This can't be!
So I check my inventory. Yeah, no gold potions left, no moon stones, nothing. I have no way to regenerate my magic points from within the Wind Palace. Seriously?! Right here at the very end, I can't light this one stupid crystal because I don't have even a smidge, not one damned ism of magic points left? And none of these monsters I killed dropped any moon stones, despite the fact the developers know you need magic desperately in the Wind Palace?
King's Field III only responded with a poker face.
I saved my game inside the palace, and shut it off. I will have to warp out of the palace, get my magic refilled, and then traverse the hedge maze again, fight my way all the way to the back of the Wind Palace once more, and then be able to light that one last troll crystal.
And I'll bet half the chests are empty, and most the others contain just herbs. But one chest will have something awesome in it, some wicked sword or titanium leg guards. So yeah, you can't just say screw it forget about it. Le sigh.
Don't ever change King's Field, don't ever change.
PLAY KING'S FIELD.

lol From Software.
Zelda is done. Zelda II looms. I have beaten this on GBA, but I'm gonna return to the NES version from my youth.

Re: RPG Progress Report
Zelda II is probably the hardest RPG I've beaten. I've beaten harder games in other genres, but Zelda II kicked my ass for a straight week before I finally beat it. I know some of yall have said that yall don't think it's as hard as it's made out to be, but it destroyed me.BoneSnapDeez wrote:lol From Software.

So confuse can die in a fire in Lagrange Point. It doesn't wear off after battle (but at least you can still use the character for healing outside of battle).
The difficulty dramatically goes down once you get downstab. And cranking sword power early helps (especially cheesing to get a ton of health and mana with a crystal refill when your sword is almost but not quite maxed).ElkinFencer10 wrote:Zelda II is probably the hardest RPG I've beaten. Sylverant is currently doing a 15 year anniversary event for PSO. So... I started a new character tonight. I'm LVL4 now...
