Blu's post about PAX East reminded me that I already have my PAX South 3 day pass and its rapidly approaching. I know its the least big of the 3 PAX shows but I am still really excited to have a weekend away from the 2 year old and wife. It's going to be nothing but video games, concerts, and free swag for 3 days and I can't wait!
Day passes for Friday, Saturday and Sunday are all still available right now: http://south.paxsite.com/registration
Is anyone else going this year? Jmustang, Jagosaurus, JoeAwesome, Flake, and my other Texas based Racketeers sound off! If you're going we should talk about meeting up and either going to an event, concert, or just grabbing lunch or drinks one day!

Hard to say if I'll go. My anniversary to my now fiancé is that weekend, so signs point to 'no', but you never know. If I do go, it'd be for one day (Saturday, likely), but tell me, what's the big deal about PAX? I've heard of it, and doing a quick look makes it seem like an E3 for the everyman (the huddled masses pictures from the site don't look appealing), but maybe there's something more to it I'm missing.8bit wrote:Blu's post about PAX East reminded me that I already have my PAX South 3 day pass and its rapidly approaching. Re: PAX South 2016 (Jan 29th-31st). Who's going?
PAX is sorta like the everyman's E3 but with much more diversity. I can only speak to to my experience at PAX Prime in 2012 and I know PAX South is smaller overall but here is how I'd explain it. There is a bigger focus on Indie games, Tabletop games, Cosplay, Handheld and PC games, all with their own specific areas. Plus there is even some retro gaming love shown with a free to play area and game specific tournaments. Plus there are really cool developer specific forums, media outlet forums (IGN, Screwattack, etc), competitions, concerts, and more.JoeAwesome wrote: Hard to say if I'll go. I really should temper my expectations b/c I know it won't be PAX Prime, but I don't care, I get to go to PAX again and have a full weekend to myself. No waking up at 6am with the baby, no honey-do lists, and no schedule other than the one I make for the weekend. It's going to be glorious.

Oh congrats dude! That's awesome! I'd just assume you going to be so busy with the baby theres no way your going to make it to PAX. But thats totally fine, your going to be much more needed at home.Jmustang1968 wrote:I went for RPGamer last year, and my wife joined me on Saturday. I havent applied for a meda pass this year. So PAX South 2016 is just 2 weeks away and I just received my 3 day badge in the mail this week... Is anyone else going? The schedule of events is up on the website and they still have Friday and Sunday passes available.

I won't be going but any of you guys passing through San Antonio are more than welcome to hit me up for an impromptu SA Racketboy dinner or lunch get together!
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
Re: PAX South 2016 (Jan 29th-31st). Who's going?
I'll be driving into SA on Friday night and am going to be at PAX on Saturday. Anyone have any recommendations for nice bars/arcades/restaurants to go to on Fri/Sat? We're staying at the Marriott San Antonio Rivercenter, so right next to the convention center. Unfortunately, I moved up to North Texas, so the drive wont be quiet as convenient as it would be if I were still living in Austin
Re: PAX South 2016 (Jan 29th-31st). Who's going?
Ghudda I like the Pearl District just outside of downtown. Its much better nightlife than the river walk which is pretty touristy and a little bit ghetto.
Flake and Ghudda, I'm going to PM you guys to see what your plans are for the weekend and maybe we can meet up at some point.

Re: PAX South 2016 (Jan 29th-31st). Who's going?
The Pearl is pretty good but South Town is definitely a more 'real' experience. I could definitely see grabbing a drink at either.
Failing that, a South Texas Racketboy lunch on Saturday would be pretty cool. I can make a few restaurant recommendations if everyone is interested, depending on everyone's location and budget.
