If you do, get the Vita version. 3DS version has a game killing bug.

It just so happens that the copy at my local Gamestop that caught my eye was on Vita, but I'd probably have ordered it for 3DS, so thanks for the warning. Has that bug still not been fixed?

The 3DS retail cart permanently has the bug.

The 3DS eShop version has been patched.

The Vita version does not have the bug and has better graphics.

So when I was out today, I stopped at Gamestop and picked up seven games:

Wii
Jerry Rice and Nitus Dog Football

PSP
Valkyria Chronicles II
Phantasty Star Portable
Star Trek: Tactical Assault
Silent Hill: Origins
Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3
Pinball Hall of Fame: The Gottlieb Collection

Play this with a friend, not by yourself, it makes all the difference.

I should probably put this in the "Unpopular opinion" thread, but man I really hated 999. The puzzles were alright, but the writing was just atrocious. I'm not into the whole visual novel thing, but this game's idea of suspense was a endless series of ellipses ("...")

Without spoiling, the ending also felt like a cheat in the same way that The Prestige did.

Never got around to playing the sequel, which I "own" via PS+.
I review (mostly old) games at: The Annals of Retrodom.

I'm with you man. I finished 999 not too long ago, and I found the game to be incredibly overrated. I mean, it was a good base concept with solid atmosphere, but the amateur hour writing and inconvenient game design really ruined the fun for me. Also suddenly Sudoku.

Good news(?) the person who wrote 999 did not write its sequels. Two new writers came on board for Virtue's Last Reward. And those same two writers also wrote Zero Time Dilemma. Maybe things got better after 999 because of that. I don't know yet, although I do own VLR for Vita.

Yeah I'm probably around 50-60% through with 9,9,9 and it's been decent so far but a lot safer then I expected it to be. I honestly don't know if there has been a way to fail any of the puzzles I've been in so far was really expecting to put a little more thought into them as opposed to just clicking everything in the environment.

Okay so I hit my first ending and I see what you mean :P. This is one of those games where it's designed to be played through multiple times to get the true ending. I actually liked the build up in the end of this branch but the last 30 minutes felt like utter shit since everything felt completely out of my control. That being said I kind of like the way they did new game plus so this could be pretty interesting.

The problem there is you must replay the game multiple times to get the true ending. You can speed up dialogue you already read, but you can't just skip it. Any puzzles you pass through again, you must finish again, you cannot skip puzzles you already beat.

I got lucky and got the true ending on my second try. Good thing too, because there wasn't going to be a third try.
