Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Yeah I think the best Shinobi games are those on Genesis: Shadow Dancer, The Revenge of Shinobi, and Shinobi III.
That reminds me - I have beaten Shadow Dancer! The Ninja Gaiden tally is still at zero though.

Agreed with Bone. The Genesis Shinobi trilogy is where it's at. Shinobi III takes the top pick for me, but the other two are not to be missed.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
I haven't played Shinobi III enough. Many say that's the best, but my favorite is Revenge of Shinobi. Little darker and I love the soundtrack. They're all good though.
As for Ninja Gaiden, I got to the final boss so for my skill level that's beating it. Maybe one of these days I'll fire it up on the Retron and try to perform a save once I get to him. Don't have time to keep replaying all those stages.

Shinobi III is baller (especially that soundtrack) and, I don't care if it counts but those new Ninja Gaiden games are pretty damn sweet too.

The first two newer Ninja Gaidens were great, especially the first one. NG3 I feel kinda sucked. I believe the lead dev on it wasn't around for that one. People have told me the Wii U version is pretty decent though.RyaNtheSlayA wrote:Shinobi III is baller (especially that soundtrack) and, I don't care if it counts but those new Ninja Gaiden games are pretty damn sweet too.
For the record I'd have to say they don't count in the whole comparison of franchises only because I don't think they were developed by the same core people, but I'm not sure.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
NG3 got screwed in localization because somebody thought it wasn't hard enough so they removed the infinite continues and made every enemy hit like a truck. Ninja Ryukenden 3 for the Famicom is actually pretty solid (the Wii U version uses this maybe?) and worthy of its predecessors.Snatch1414 wrote:The first two newer Ninja Gaidens were great, especially the first one. It did have a different lead designer than the previous games and the unedited Japanese game is actually the easiest in the trilogy which is funny when comparing it to the punishing American version.
The Master System game was also done by different people and is good in its own right though the infinite items glitch/cheat that's annoying to avoid will make the game too easy unless you're on a katana only run.
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
As I recall the TAS still hasn't figured out how to do a swordless US Ninja Gaiden 3 run, but they did a live JP run a few weeks ago at AGDQ.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
I may have screwed up, but at least you screwed up quoting me.
This is why I'm not keen on reboots having the same name as the originals.
Currently I'm looking at you, Doom. At least John Carmack had the good sense not to pull that crap with Doom 3.
