Re: What Made you Smile/What Ticked you off Today?
Online dating does have potential. Before Facebook destroyed it, I used MySpace circa 2007-2009 to successfully get dates and even a couple of relationships. Later on I used Facebook in late 2009 to get reacquainted with someone I had not seen in four years, and she's now my wife. Never would have been able to reconnect without Facebook.
As for eHarmony... I tried it I think around 2008. After filling out a bunch of information and answering questions, the site ran statistics and analysis for me. After scanning around my location, the site returned a result saying that it could not find anyone within 150 miles of me, that would be compatible with my personality. And I think it was right, considering the woman I actually married lived over 200 miles away.
These days I've seen ads for dating sites that cater to specific demographics. Like Christian dating sites, or farmer dating sites. It might be a good idea to look into those niche dating sites, to find people who are more acclimatized to one's particular personality. Versus using big catch all sites like eHarmony or OKC.

The problem with the niche sites is they can have trouble building up the critical mass of people that you get several matches which have a shot at panning out. It leads into a bad cycle of people don't sign up because there aren't enough people signed up.

I know ChristianMingle has gone down the hole because too many people who weren't Christian but claimed to be were using it, so a whole lot of people quit using it.Exhuminator wrote: These days I've seen ads for dating sites that cater to specific demographics. And stuff like Farmer's Only is such a huge joke that nobody takes it seriously. People outside the demographic rip on it, but people in the demographic sure as hell don't use it, and those that due have shit luck with it.

Geek 2 Geek, lol. You basically can't do anything on this one without paying premium, so one day some bot finally got me so I could simply read a PM I got... never again. To this day I still see a lot of bots that pop up on this one and then those accounts are deleted weeks later. Definite shady BS with this site.ElkinFencer10 wrote:Or they're giant scams.MrPopo wrote:The problem with the niche sites is they can have trouble building up the critical mass of people that you get several matches which have a shot at panning out. I'm no expert having had absolutely no dates at all from this stuff over years haha, again I'm in Kansas though. But it's been interesting watching this evolve over the years and my timing probably just wasn't good. Early on, people shunned the idea and for whatever reason it seemed jokey or disrespectful, now the entire galaxy is on the band wagon and there's simply too many cooks in the kitchen. Then if and when you finally communicate with someone, you have to go through the process of figuring them out or seeing if there's anything mutual, interest or lifestyle wise, etc, that's the real problem with the big sites if you ask me. It's a very unnatural process. The idea of meeting someone on a gaming or anime specific site seems a lot more appealing to me, because then at the very start, you at least know you've hopefully got something to work with. But sadly I've been to a few of the smaller sites, and they're either dead zones, or scams like Geek 2 Geek.

BronyMate is the same way. I signed up for a free account a couple years ago just for the lulz, and after a few days, I was like "....I don't think there are any actual human beings on this site..."Xeogred wrote:Geek 2 Geek, lol. I've pretty much accepted my lot in life to be a lonely hermit. Everyone in my town is either super ghetto or super hick, and the next closest place with any real civilization is an hour away (and teachers ain't got time to casually take a 120 mile round trip journey just to try to meet women). So here I say, embracing my status as the real-life forever alone meme.

Even the house doesn't boost your chances? (it sounded like you owned one in the game room thread I think).
I say that semi jokingly. I imagine it can be a nice perk to some people looking for a mate though. Or maybe not? lol
Definitely wish I had a house now though!

Ya know, all the "internet ladies" I ended up dating I met on hobby forums and places like Livejournal, not on websites specifically designed to find dates/matches.
