Re: The Master Sytem Appreciation Thread
totally love this game. It is definitely my favorite non-Zelda Zelda game (followed closely by 3D Dot Game Heroes). Beating this one felt like a major accomplishment.IrishNinja wrote:...so it took years (and a few failed batteries, somehow) but i finally beat Golden Axe Warrior! probably my favorite Zelda clone, got rough at parts but i'm not too ashamed to say i cheesed the last boss, haha. great game, overworld is huge!

QUESTION: Are SMS games region-free? I've never figured that out for sure one way or the other.
Re: The Master Sytem Appreciation Thread
I could have sworn they are. I mean, I'm sure I've read they are. That said, I've never owned a Master System (no idea why I've never rectified this - I've been meaning to get one for years), so I could be wrong.noiseredux wrote: QUESTION: Are SMS games region-free? wasn't SMS rather popular in Europe? (Am I correct that you are in Europe? Or did I make that up?)Reprise wrote:That said, I've never owned a Master System (no idea why I've never rectified this - I've been meaning to get one for years),
It flopped here, which is why I had one - it was like $30 on close-out and games were $5 or $10 at my local toy store. But I loved the damn thing.
Re: The Master Sytem Appreciation Thread
Yeah, it was (and yep, I'm from the UK). Weirdly, I had more friends in school who had a Master System than had a NES (or SNES) and even most of my friends with Mega Drives had the power base converter thingy with MS games.noiseredux wrote: wasn't SMS rather popular in Europe? I always wanted to get the Power Base Converter, but I have a Mega Drive II and the rare converter they brought out for the MDII goes for ridiculous prices on Ebay (and that's when one actually shows up). It's cheaper and easier to just buy a Master System console, although I really do not have the space for more consoles and more games. My wife is already asking my where my consoles and games are going to go when we have kids (half my games and consoles are kept in our spare bedroom - which, eventually, will become the kid's room)

It's pretty cool. It's an unashamed rip off of the original Zelda but instead of just being lazy about ripping it off they made some improvements along the way.prfsnl_gmr wrote:WHAT?!noiseredux wrote:It is definitely my favorite non-Zelda Zelda game (followed closely by 3D Dot Game Heroes).

I'll be the voice of dissent here.
Golden Axe Warrior is pretty poor, with some terrible hit detection and combat mechanics. It's significantly worse than the game it apes. Neutopia is a much better Zelda wannabe.

Re: The Master Sytem Appreciation Thread
So this is totally unrelated to what yall are talking about, but has anyone played the Master System version of Michael Jackson's Moonwalker? I know it's a relatively rare one, but the Genesis version is one of my favorite games on the system, and I've been thinking about adding the Master System version to my collection.
