I'm not usually bad about that. It's just been the past few months that I've let myself slip.
I am super strict on my gaming budget. PC games come out of credit card rewards, and I only budget a few hundred for the year for console games. Anything I sell goes back into gaming, so it is mostly a game keeping ontop of things.
Your yearly budget sounds like my monthly budget (which is why I live on ramen and ravioli)....
Sadly games are my lowest priority on money. You know: House, Meat, Wife, etc. But I did spend most of my extra money in the 90s and 2000s on games, so I have a sizable backlog and have most of the games I care to own (I use to own the bulk of the Saturn library disc only). So most of that money is spent on current gen games. When I get a bonus or spare money, I will splurge and get a game or five, but recently my money has been going to movies.

I'm going to try and keep it at a net expense of $100 a month so $1200 for the year but I'll probably fail miserably at the rate I'm going :P. Pretty much gaming and saving up for a house are my only expenses at the moment. Although now that Christmas has passed my hours are going back down at the post office so I need to reign it in :P.

I really should run the numbers, figure out how much I spend. It's not enough to take huge chunks out of the bank account, thankfully. I probably spend a lot more on gas and eating out...

Yeah... I spend maybe $15 a week on gas (my job is 10 mins from my house), and I only eat out two or three times a month, so you can start to see where I'm not spending money in contrast.

I wish we had a DirtCheap around here. Tell those folks to start opening more stores!

As Fast said earlier we all have our priorities. I don't mind spending chunks of change on my gaming obsession, but that's only after all other bills (including savings) are taken care of first. I've never bought anything gaming related on can't-pay-for-it-now-credit ever. If I can't outright pay for it out of pocket, it's not getting bought.

To keep the thread on track, what I've bought this month since my last update:

Devil May Cry HD Collection - Xbox 360 ($8.85)
Arcana Heart 3: LOVE MAX!!!!! - Vita ($19.99)
Scribblenauts Unlimited - 3DS ($13.99)

Prices include shipping. All bought brand new and sealed from Amazon and eBay.

Edit: Posted the wrong version of Scribblenauts.

Thankfully, I don't have any other money-sapping obsessions. I don't smoke or drink, so that helps a ton, and I'm not a party animal. Besides, that would take away from gaming time. ;)

I almost never eat out aside from the occasional pizza or fast food, and I live 2 miles from the school, so my commute to work means I only have to buy gas once per month (and I only have a 12 gallon tank, so that's like $20 per month at most). I'm also only 24 and single, so I don't have a wife or kids to spend money on, and my rent is relatively low since I live in a shitty town (got ranked the 2nd most dangerous town in NC based on property crime per capita and the most ghetto town in the state, though that's much more subjective).

That leaves me with a decent amount of money to spend on games. I've been bad about saving money, but my New Year's resolution is to start putting some in savings every month.

Oh, and I just got back from canceling some pre-orders at Gamestop, but since I already had them paid off, I picked up Kirby's Return to Dreamland (Wii), Spec Ops: The Line (PS3), and Tokyo Twilight Ghost Hunters (Vita). Any thoughts to share on those games? I don't know much of anything about any of them.

>Kirby's Return to Dreamland (Wii)

If you're just looking for a solid Kirby game it's good enough. No real innovation to speak of outside local co-op multiplayer. It's a very easy and quick game to beat. I used to own this but I gave it to my little cousin.

>Spec Ops: The Line (PS3)

I've got this on 360. I haven't played it yet, but it's well regarded critically for having a surprise twist in the story that reflects on war gaming in an unusual way.

>Tokyo Twilight Ghost Hunters (Vita)

I also have this on Vita. It wasn't reviewed well due to the battle system supposedly relying too much on luck (or maybe reviewers just didn't understand it). I bought it because the subject matter is interesting to me, and its art style is excellent. I think this game is also available on PS3, but Vita was its target dev plat.

Spec Ops the line was one of the RF Gen play through and ranked really high on their end of year podcast recap. Made me want to play it.

A couple of my friends keep telling me how great it is, but they also think Kingdom Hearts is the greatest video game of all time, and as I've mentioned in other threads I'm...not a fan...so I usually take their recommendations with a grain of salt.

I bought Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light. It has very pretty graphics!
