I always found the system itself quite comfortable to hold. It's just the batteries that really got me. What is that cap replacement stuff you speak of? I know that there were issues w/ the sound cutting out (happened to my old system). Is there more than that?
It's both sound issues and screen issues.

I had the capacitors changed in 2 consoles. Both had no sound (or almost no sound) and are now reasonably loud and very clear.

Both also had very blurry images and were very dark. One was almost impossible to see. Replacing the caps means the screens are now bright and clear, and only have the usual amount of blur you'd expect from a Game Gear screen. Getting someone to swap the caps didn't cost me too much, and if you can solder yourself, the actual caps are dirt cheap and I don't think it's too hard to do?

Pretty close to 100% of Game Gears have cap issues nowadays, they were all made with crap parts. Getting them fixed is like night and day, it's like a whole different console.

Doesn't help the battery life, but eh, what can you do.

yeah I'm thinking it might just stay plugged in next to my bed. Lord knows the screen will be easier to see in dim lighting than my NGPC. And bless that little system's microswitches, but my wife doesn't love it when she's trying to fall asleep.

Reading Console Wars currently has done nothing to slow down my Sega consumption, I'll tell ya. But at least GG looks relatively cheap to collect for - even CIB.

Well, if anyone's looking to sell/trade a GG system in decent working shape, hit me up.

The flea market where I grew up had 20 copies of Sonic 2 for the Game Gear still in shrink wrap for $5 each. I thought it was a great steal until I looked it up online and found that that's about the normal price (at least it was ten years ago).

It's probably less now.

.....

I beat Mega Man 10 yesterday; so, I once again have all of the Mega Man games under my belt. My personal ranking of the games in the series, from best to worst and excluding the Gameboy games:
Mega Man 2
Mega Man 3
Mega Man 9
Mega Man 10
Mega Man 4
Mega Man
Mega Man 8
Mega Man 7
Mega Man & Bass
Mega Man 6
Mega Man 5
Also, IMO, the five most difficult games in the series are:
Mega Man
Mega Man 9
Mega Man 7
Mega Man 2
Mega Man & Bass

Uh oh, you broke the dam and started the flood. Now everyone will be posting ratings.

...Starting with me! I've only played the 8 bit /8-bit styled games (1-6, 9, 10). I've played a few of the GB ones too, but I feel those are a bit of a different beas entirely.

My best to worst ranking:
Mega Man 9
Mega Man 2
Mega Man 10
Mega Man 4
Mega Man
Mega Man 6
Mega Man 5
Mega Man 3
My top 5 most difficult:
Mega Man 9
Mega Man 3
Mega Man 10
Mega Man 2 (on the original 'Difficult' setting)
Mega Man
I don't like 3 nearly as much as most, and I found it to be one of the cheapest in the series too. That's the only one I'd say I actually dislike. 5 is just boring all round. 4 and 6 are underrated. 1 isn't as hard as people say.

I've only played 1, 9, and 10, so I'll abstain from this ranking.

Far as pure Mega Man games go, I haven't beat that many. I've finished 1, 2, and 3. I almost finished 9. I thought 9 was the hardest. Though the Yellow Devil in MM1 is no joke if you don't use the pause trick.

Gotta get in on this. Heh.

MM2 = MM9 > MM5 = MM3 > MM6 > MM4 > MM8 > MM10 > MM&Bass > MM1 > MM7

Maybe? Seems legit.

Difficulty?

MM1 > MM9 > all the others > MM5

The only mainline Mega Man I have not beaten is Mega Man 7. For me...hmm...

Mega Man 1

After that, I don't know. I guess I got used to the difficulty, because I don't recall ever thinking "This is so hard" outside of particular levels. For instance, Quick Man's level in MM2, or Centaur Man's level in MM6. Beyond that...yeah, I got nothing.

I've been thinking I might be better served by a Super Famicom than a Super Nintendo. If I get a physical game, I get it boxed and boxed Super Famicom games are much cheaper and in much better shape than their Western counterparts.

Looking at my wanted list, language shouldn't be an issue, specially since you can run American games in a SF anyways:

3 Fire Emblem games. JP only.
F-Zero In-Game text mostly in English
Wizardry I-II-III. JP only, English text available on the cartridge.
Uniracers. Low text, test mostly in English IIRC.
Donkey Kong Country. Unimportant text.
Yoshi's Island. Unimportant text

@Mega Man Talk

I agree that the first Mega Man is the hardest, followed by Mega Man 9. Funnily enough, I never thought Quickman's stage in Mega Man 2 was difficult.
