My fave Treasure title is Guardian Heroes. I played the crap out of that game. The characters are very unique, as are the various gameplay systems. And the arena mode is just stupid, hilarious fun.

For me similar, the N64 version and then there's Sin & Punishment as a good 2nd place contender, and I have their Mischief Makers on N64 too which is cool but brutal too.

Silpheed I used to own on PS2 and that game was excellent (even the wonky DOS PC version was cool ages ago.) I do own Ikaruga, but it's just too hard and involving for me to enjoy it much as I prefer non bullet hell shooters. I did have Gradius V too, ended up not like that one either anywhere near the others. For some reason even as an Astro Boy fan I really did not like that GBA game much and Gunstar on there too I owned it and I think I disliked it more than the Genesis game due to the cramped space in scaling it down (and yes that Thunderforce stage is crap.)

For some dumb reason it seems the only games of Treasure I really ever dug oddly were on N64 and 2 of them I got as imports only just last year in a cheap missed ebay lot from the US of all things with a n64 import adapter.

I know this will be unpopular, but I think Treasure is grossly overrated by its fans. I've touched quite a few of their games, owned some, really got into very few of them.

They have a particular style like many niche developers. You either love it or you don't. It's niche for a reason.

I don't always value Treasure's game design, but when it comes to sheer programming ability, I think Treasure were the most impressive 2D coders of the 16-bit era.

I'll agree with that entirely, even pre-Treasure when they were cranking out some insane stuff for Konami too since much of them came from there if I remember correctly. Those earlier 16bit Konami games were insanely good.

Treasure, in my mind, was very much a "throw it at the wall and see what sticks" company. They weren't as bad at it as some others in the industry just because of their sheer talent, but it led to exactly what we're seeing here, different games that appeal to each of us. They certainly weren't afraid to shake things up.

I'm trying to think of what my favorite Treasure game actually is. It's... well, given the number of times I've played through it, it probably is Gunstar Heroes. But I also loved Guardian Heroes, Mischief Makers (easily one of the best 2D platformers of that era), and Radiant Silvergun (potentially my favorite shoot-'em-up), Astro Boy (it didn't grab me at first, but it really gets better as you go).

Folks have already mentioned others, and my second tier is the Guardian/Gunstar games on GBA, the Bleach games, Dynamite Headdy, and Light Crusader. Alien Soldier might also make it, depending on how I'm feeling.

There are others, like Bangai-O, that I like, but I really haven't put a whole lot of time into. I've heard Gradius V is excellent. I've played a bit of Ikaruga, and I don't know how much I like it, honestly. It's solid, but not my cup-'o-tea. Too much thinking in my shooter, I suppose. I also need to get around to playing Silhouette Mirage.

Seriously, even McDonald's Treasure Land is solid. Treasure's rep is well-earned.

Aw, heck, I might as well link to the other blurbs I wrote on the games for the Genesis era.

Could have sworn I wrote about Yu Yu Hakusho as well. Anyone who has played it can attest it's effectively a Guardian Heroes prototype.

I feel like Treasure is a company I deeply respect yet I cannot name any game I love.

Just as in the US, Japan had many mediocre programmers. Treasure was always working the hardware in interesting ways that most others were not.

Same here. I think their games are pretty solid but I could never get into any of them.

I think one of the few criticisms I'm confident enough to make of them is that their games to be somewhat longer than they should and sometimes slow down to a standstill to showcase quirky bosses.

But I prefer smaller, more focused games so I'm very biased here.

I adore Treasure. Gunstar Heroes is one of my top 3 Mega Drive games (along with Sonic 2 and Streets of Rage 2). I think Dynamite Headdy is a blast. Guardian Heroes is probably my favourite game I own for Saturn, Bangai O is up there with my favourite on Dreamcast, and it's sequel on DS is even better. I love Mischief Makers, I really enjoyed Astro Boy: Omega Factor, and both Sin & Punishment games are fantastic. Ikaruga is the game that go me into shmups.

Treasure are absolutely one of my favourite developers. For me, their library just shines - quirky, wierd, eclectic and chaotic and just a ton of fun.

There's still a fair few I need to play. Most of the priciest games I've yet to try, even digitally - stuff like Alien Soldier, Rakugaki Showtime and Radiant Silvergun. I zlso need to try some of their 'lesser' games, which I suspect with be fun too. Freak Out/Stretch Panic was interesting from the little I've played, as was Wario World. I still need to try Gunstar Super Heroes, Guardian Heroes Advance, Silhouette Mirage and Light Crusader too. I can';t wait
