In the meanwhile, there's a press release saying that the retro-freak is getting a Gamegear adapter.

I get having no NES port, but kind of a problem if you want it in a non Famicom served area (ie: NES.) And then they charge you for all these add-on devices, the annoying one being able to use your own controllers. Over at DP one owner has their system overheat because they were using the module because the cooling vents are where it gets attached basically burying it. A more ventilated area would help things, but if you were in a warm area (like in a media shelf, not counter top) it causes it to have problems.
I acknowledge these points. The NES port is a big deal to me too. And yes, I understand why an Asian country only cares about the Famicom port, not the NES port. Personally, I don't own a single Famicom cartridge; I own over a hundred NES cartridges.

The controller ports being sold as a premium is a double-edged sword. In one hand, I can plug any USB controller into the Retro-Freak, and I already own a few USB controller adapters. On the other hand, I can't escape the feeling that the classic controller ports should have been included for no extra charge.

On the plus side, emulation is shameless on Retro-Freak. Where the Retron 5 plays coy about emulation, the Retro-Freak wears emulation on its sleeve. Retro-Freak lets you dump your ROMs straight on a micro-USB card and go. No doubt some folks dislike this; others embrace it.

My frothing demand for...
Blah,
yeah, I am ... interested in this Retro Freak console I think.
I hope they can figure out the overheating issues, as that would be a deal breaker for me.

Anyways, I have a small Famicom collection (30+) now (mostly thanks to senseiman) and dislike (at times) the video quality of my Cheap-a$$ famiclone. So I wouldn't mind another system that can take advantage of it, plus some other systems.

I assume the Super NES support includes the special chip emulation (FX, SA-1, etc.). As an SD2SNES owner, it would be nice to have a semi-dedicated unit to compliment the games that the SD2SNES cannot play (yet).

Finally, it would be nice to have a hack option to put pce games on there without having the cards, as I have no plans to build a PCengine collection (wishing I picked up a V1 everdrive, as the v2 lacks the ability to keep the games loaded).

But I guess there's a cool factor to having a digital-play option just for games I actually own.

I currently have my retron 5 on my desk, hoping to fix the SNES pins. It looks totally roached, most the pins looks bent half way down and you can't remove the cart slot to "unbend" the pins.

Hopefully I can unsolder it and solder on a replacement cart slot, has anyone heard that working fine?

Getting annoyed fast.

I've never heard of that being attempted before, but I would imagine if you had an official one it probably should work if you mount the connectors right. It's not like the R5 should have more or less, and crossed leads from the connector to the board wouldn't make sense either. Perhaps find dead SNES and see what happens. Worst thing happens, you have still a dead slot and a still dead SNES. Up side, far more stable connection in your case.

The only other option would be going in with like a dental tooth cleaning hook, a light, and trying to bend them back up as they should be, but the metal would be weakened anyway.

Tried that, it would read and give the can't dump error, I took the game out, MEGA GENTLY and like 6 of the pins bent again. The built quality is utter shit.

Interesting.
I might have to pick one up someday.
Might wait until they work any bugs out though.
Between Famicom an Genesis games, I do need to consider better video options (nodding my systems, getting a frameister, and or one of these aftermarket contraptions.
Good luck with that SNES connector emwearz.

EM I think you just got a bad one. I've rarely seen a single complaint about the pins on the 2nd model version of it since they scrapped the thin metal crap pins for another supplier on the revision (part of the reason the price went up.)

I'd go with your snes cart slot swap if you can.

Apparently this was common knowledge, but up to now I had never thought to try it.

In this case the 32X functions as just a pass-thru device. Not that I'm planning to use it like that, but I guess it's kinda neat that it's functional in this way with the R5.
