One of those things is the Collector's Editions that they have on display since most stores will slowly discount those out to keep them from taking up to much space. Well over the past week I've been to a 3 of the nearby locations and noticed something. Some genius has deemed it a good idea to open up the collector's boxes and put their statues out on display  . Noticed this with copies of Far Cry 4, Sout Park the Stick of Truth, and Dark Souls 2. Needless to say I forsee alot of incomplete and/or damaged collector's editions in the future :(.
They'll zip lock bag the extras and sell them as new with the game case when the time comes.
Well here is the really dumb thing they are clearencing them out to save space or at least that is part of it. However not only are the opening them which hurts the value, but they are also leaving the empty boxes out as well. The net result is they are hurting the value of the "NEW" item and taking up double the space  .

I think the idea is that if people see the statue in front of them they may be more inclined to buy it. Some people are attracted to shiny, pretty things, ever shop with a woman LOL. Really though, some corporate person came up with the idea, I would think. Ever see how long some of those collectors editions sit there? I have seen some of the same ones at my local Gamestop sitting there for over 2 years.

I do not think the market for them is really big in this country. As collectors we get a false perception that people want these things. Most people just want to play and think the extras are a waste. We have to take our "collector" glasses off sometimes and see it through the eyes of someone who just wants to play.

I definitely understand why this practice pisses a lot of people off, and I don't entirely disagree, but by the same token, I think wclem is definitely right; I'm a walking example of that. If I'm browsing in Gamestop, I'm way more likely to impulse buy a game if I see a shiny, pretty cover. Then again, I'm a financially irresponsible and easily distracted collector.

File under sadness.

I gave it a shot, in trying to web to store order for DEMON GAZE for vita.

did the order on the 29th of december and I went to go pick it up yesterday.

I opened up the yellow padded envelope. I smiled when I saw the case but then when I pulled it out, game had no cover artwork! :(

$17.99 for the game but I paid about $23 for it with shipping.

I returned it right then and there. I knew I was taking the risk, by just ordering it used, but its so sad to not have the original case.

I guess I'll have to keep an eye out for this game in other places.

Better luck next time, I guess.

Same thing happened to me a few months ago. I ordered all three Uncharted PS3 games when they were having a sale (all three for $10). I got three cases, sure enough, but only Uncharted 3 was the actual case with artwork...

I generally try to avoid GS as much as possible but a friend gave me a $40 gift card to GS for Christmas.

It's cool and I am grateful to her, but.... ugh.

Nah, I'll probably use it for Final Fantasy Explorers or something like that. I've been on a big 3DS kick lately. It just kind of bums me out to even walk in a Gamestop a lot of the time.

It's like watching someone being mean to a puppy.

Thanks though.
