Hey! I just remembered another cool 80s Anthology TV series. It was called "Monsters". It was a horror anthology. Each episode had a twist ending like Tales from the Crypt.

That's already on the OP list. :) It's closely related to Tales from the Darkside.

A lot of these series also have complete DVD releases on Amazon, they get sales one in a while too.

Good question, really. I thought at first that they were not "anthology" series in the true sense of the word, that is, both those shows you mentioned had recurring characters and a central plot as opposed to these other series that had different characters and stories each week. But I did include the Monster of the Week episodes from the X-Files that were considered separate from the regular story arc, and those MOTW eps had recurring characters, so you make a good point. AYAOTD also has recurring characters at the beginning and the end of each episode. I've seen both of those series on places like Chiller (NC didn't last very long), and they do fit the general description, so I'll throw them on too, I recommend you all check them out.

I'm also adding The Hunger (suggested by marurun) after further research, that's a good fit.

The OP list is now cleaned up (some links fixed) and alphabetized.

I remembered what you said here and I decided to try to look again.

Here's something from USA from 1989/1990.

Shadow Theater

In 1990, USA had a short-lived series that aired on Saturday afternoons called Shadow Theater hosted by Robert Englund. The show featured mostly clips of horror films and sometimes interviews with actors or directors. The half hour show would often have a theme each week and would show clips of movies that went along with that certain theme of the week.

Taken from here.

hmm, I'm not sure. I feel like I'd remember it being Robert Englund.

BUT, that site you linked is interesting. His talking about starting his Saturdays of USA horror and all. I gotta read thru this more carefully. It seems to echo my memories and timeframe.

The main thing about the show I'm looking for is that it wasn't just a host doing bumpers, they actually narrated what you were watching. It was literally abridged versions of movies that were heavily edited - again, my memory is they used animated hearts to cover up violence or nudity on screen.

was "Bad Movie Night" a show???

This thread from 2008 lists a bunch of Creature Feature bootlegs for trade. Under "Bad Movie Night" is a double feature of Pumpkinhead and something called Kiss. Any ideas?

I am starting to think it was TNT MonsterVision after all, but I can't find any clips of the movie sections, just bumpers. I'd love to see the Troll episode. I think this could be it...

After all that, really? Dang, and I thought it would have been neat to find out what it really was. But we did get to dig deeper into USA's various takes on movie based programming.

I still don't know if that's what it is though. Yes, MV did show Troll. I can't find any proof they showed Pumpkinhead. There's one guy on Reddit who said he saw Pumpkinhead on MV, but that's the only shred I can find that would say it did. Also, I can only find video of bumpers... I need to see something with some violence or nudity with some animated hearts editing them out to know that this is really what I'm looking for. So still not sure.
