For me it's not that other people like the game, it's that praise of Undertale comes with a constant unspoken barrage of "Wow, my entertainment choices are so progressive" and "I take gaming as a medium so seriously that I cried!".

It has simply been co-opted by some incredibly annoying groups which talk about the game in a very annoying manner

But that should never be a determining factor for your personal enjoyment of something. No person should be the reason why you like or dislike something. Donald Trump eats hamburgers, so should we stop eating hamburgers?

Yes, people go overboard with their reaction to the game, but again it is only because they haven't played anything like this before. People who have been in the hobby for a long time like us old farts have seen games like this, sure, but the game is still a lot of fun when it boils down to it.

When did it become so cool to hate on things on Racketboy.

Every thread lately seems to be full of people spouting vile about stuff they don't like. I understand that in this case, this is the 'unpopular opinions' thread, but the way people are talking is pretty gross to be honest.

The implication is, repeatedly "I may hate INSERT POPULAR GAME HERE unlike the majority of people, but that's because those people are idiotic brainless morons who don't deserve to be part of the medium."

Fuck that shit.

Amen brother! Let's spread happiness across the world. Weird that liking things is being construed as an unpopular opinion nowadays!

Yeah, I've seen this same thing come and go before with stuff like To The Moon and Always Sometimes Monsters. They were big deals when they were released, people said the games made them cry and OMFG you gotta play this right now so progressive etc. And then a year later nobody's talking about them ever again.

Undertale's a nice little indie RPG with above average writing. That's what it is. That's all it is.

Exactly. It's the latest iteration of Gone Home.

Except those games are nothing alike............

I don't see how the "hype" generated by Undertale is any more annoying than the hype generated by something like The Witcher 3 or Metal Gear Solid V or Fallout 4. Last I checked I don't hear ear-piercing looping ads for Undertale every time I visit GameStop, nor do I see Undertale banners plastered all over GameFAQs. In order to find "annoying" praise for Undertale you have to consciously seek it out, which apparently some of you did.

Or hang out IRL with YouTube/gaming try-hards and be pitiful enough that they're your only friends for 60 miles around.
