Re: Oculus Rift Preorders Are Open $599 + Tax/Shipping Thoug
My wife says she may get one of these for medical and research purposes. I think she's secretly a gamer.

Co-op the Trauma Center and Trauma Team games with her on Wii. There's your gateway series man.

I feel like interjecting again by stating that we have way too many screens in our lives.

Heresy!! We need more screens! That's why I always have at least three TVs set up in my living room at any given time.Pulsar_t wrote:I feel like interjecting again by stating that we have way too many screens in our lives.

So, at the risk of asking a stupid question...
How does this thing work if I wear glasses? Does it know my prescription or something???

Accordding to some of the videos I have seen you can wear your glasses while using the headset. The people who were reviewing it said it was kind of a pain though. They said that when demoing it they were told to put their glasses in the headset first and then place it on their heads which worked okay but wasn't very comfortable.

I kind of figured that was the "solution" to that problem. That's unfortunate considering just how many people wear glasses.Fragems wrote:Accordding to some of the videos I have seen you can wear your glasses while using the headset. I can't say I was super interested in VR anyway but I was curious about that.

They are working on it I think one of the Dev Kits for the oculus actually had focus knobs for each eye so maybe the retail model will have something like that and they just didn't want to have to adjust it constantly while demoing. Think in the Game Informer article they also said the PlayStation VR actually was pretty comfortable with glasses on. Seeing as it's a pretty big issue I'm sure they are putting a lot of effort into finding a solid solution and probably by the 2nd or 3rd revision of the headsets they should have it sorted out.

Interesting about the focus knobs. But I would probably need multiple knobs - I have an astigmatism in both eyes (each eye is different, naturally...).Fragems wrote:They are working on it I think one of the Dev Kits for the oculus actually had focus knobs for each eye so maybe the retail model will have something like that and they just didn't want to have to adjust it constantly while demoing. Otherwise, I think it will be interesting to watch and see if VR takes off this time around. The price is a bit high, particularly for the Occulus, but that isn't the only factor that determines these things.
Personally, I can see more utility for the tech outside of gaming than I can see for gaming itself.
