I have the 500 GB version of this, and I hooked it up to my Wii U with this. This set up works wonderfully, loads games quickly, is completely silent, is incredibly small, and does not require another outlet.

I hope that helps!
The 1TB is cheaper, would it work as well?
Yes. It should work. The 500 GB was cheaper when I bought it, and I suspected that 500 GB was way more space than I would ever need for eShop games. If the 1 TB model is cheaper now, then you should go for that one.
Thanks, I'm waiting to get one more $5 Amazon card from Bing and then I'll grab it and the Y cable.

If anyone cares Gamestop will be selling the Skylanders Super Chargers starter packs tomorrow, $40 for regular and I think $60 for dark, but you also can get a starter pack of Swap Force or Trap Team free with purchase so $20 each. Plus they'll be selling separately the Donkey Kong and Bowzer characters, though they are technically out now.

So my WiiU has been giving me the System Memory Error 160-0103 lately. Started after a string of firing up a bunch of my downloaded titles to test them out / make sure they were completely updated. All of a sudden I start up Wind Waker and it black screens me with that error.

I restart, play a different game and it works. Since then I've played a couple physical titles without issue. Tried Wind Waker today and immediately got the error screen again (which requires a hard reboot). Then tried Duck Tales and got the same thing.

Seems like a flash error (i do have a launch WiiU) that apparently Nintendo regularly fixes. Anyone else have this happened?

When I had the WiiU I think I had that or a similar error code due to its flash memory as well on the 32GB unit I had.

It has just gone out of warranty by a month or two, but they fixed it free anyway because it was their fault kind of. When they did this huge system update in 2014 I think to the 2.X series where they had added a lot of new features for some reason once flash finished it bombed I guess on the end of it or wrote something badly. I could boot the system fine, get to my saves (all), my saved game data in the eShop, even play all my discs, but if I even tried to open the wrench (system tools) it would pop the error you had or very similar to it and lock up.

Annoyingly when they returned it to me about 10 days later I got a slightly scratched up refurb and they claimed my data couldn't' even be viewed or accessed (bs) and I got a stock replacement.

Honestly it was the final straw that basically just left it plugged in and used once or twice the last few months I owned it before I sold it which PayPal shows me payment in early December of 2014.

Yikes, I was hoping i'd get my WiiU back with all of my purchases. Sounds like I need to backup all my saved game data prior to sending anything back.

Isn't save game data locked on the U because of what happened on the Wii?

I haven't had that issue but as soon as I was able to, I bought a 150GB solid state drive with USB 2.0 enclosure and I use that for all of my WiiU downloads and storage. It's not a super expensive add on to your device and it is way easier to back up your data. Might be an easy way to avoid using the flash memory on the device if you don't want to risk losing your data and getting a blank refurb.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

You can transfer all your data between two wii u consoles.

That is even if you do not have access to the original, you just need to contact support and they are able to arrange it, but it requires you to ship the system to them. If your system is being repaired by them, the data is transferred.

If you have data stored via usb, it works once the transfer is complete.

It is - so it would only work if they "transferred" my WiiU to a new WiiU so then it would read and acknowledge my backup data (should it be lost).

It's weird, it only affects four games - all of which i hadn't touched in a year (this probably happened when that update came out). All my other games work although I'll have to test the virtual console games now:

Wind Waker
Duck Tales
NES Remix 1
NES Remix 2

Of course all of those have physical releases (Wind Waker was the free game you got with MK8) so part of me wondered if I could just eventually buy those and delete these digitla ones and problem solved! (doubtful).

Just wanted to pop in here and say that the WiiU is pretty cool. My girl got one for Xmas, and it's sweet to see Nintendo games in HD finally (barring Dolphin screenies or watevs).

She's currently playing Super Mario 3D World, New SMB U, and Mario Kart 8. I am pleased to see there is much Koopaling action going on here. Gonna have to get down on MK8 multiplayer soon.

Also got Mario Party 10 on deck. How does that compare to past entries?

I like Mario Party 10, and as a party game, it's better than the past entries IMO because it allows up to 5 players with the Bowser Party mode. The amiibo integration is cool, but the amiibo Party mode was a huge letdown for me. I'm kind of a stick in the mud about Mario Party, however, and insist that none of the sequels have ever lived up to the greatness of the N64 titles, so I'm not the most unbiased opinion. My friends and I have sunk probably 8 or 10 hours into it, though, so it's certainly not a bad entry.
