I'm new to the Fallout series. I just started playing the first game the other day.
So I noticed two spin off games, Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel for PC and Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel for PS2. What's the difference between them? I'm pretty sure the PS2 version isn't a port of the PC game, but are they similar? Or wildly different?
Is the PS2 version worth playing? The PC game is cheap on GOG, so I'll probably give it a try. The PS2 version is about $40 on eBay right now though. Is it worth that price tag?
Fallout Tactics Brotherhood of Steel - PC vs PS2 ?

Completely different games, for sure. I haven't played Tactics, but I know it's a tactical RPG, where the PS2/XBOX game is a action-RPG along the lines of Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance and its ilk. It's... eh. I definitely wouldn't drop a 40-spot on it.

Yeah they are two dramatically different games. The ps2 game, as mentioned was an action rpg and the pc version is a realtime/turnbased tactical combat game kind of like jagged alliance meets fallout.

Since they share the same subtitle, even though they're much different games, do they share more or less the same story?
Sounds like I'd be more interested in playing Tactics in that case. I'm somewhat curious about the the PS2, but I'm not paying $40 for a curiosity. I didn't even know there was a Fallout game on the PS2 until the other day. I wonder why it has a high price tag (I'm use to seeing PS2 games go for $5-20). Did it have a low print run due to it's low popularity?

The stories are also vastly different. I think the price is because fallout 4 came out and the franchise name is carrying more weight. Give it a while and I'm sure it will go down. Also it isn't really worth it. I've beaten it and it was mediocre.

Yeah, I got it for $15 a few years back. Give it a year, it'll be cheap again.BogusMeatFactory wrote:The stories are also vastly different. PS2 version is very short and is over before you know it (6-8 hrs). Not sure if there's any reason to keep playing after that but compared to Dark Alliance there's no where near the content nor fun factor. Nice for collecting since its obscure and mostly unknown, cool to see fallout theme but I don't think the story or lore are memorable.
I wouldn't spend more than $15-$20 for either ps2/Xbox if I just wanted to play it, of course a collector would pay more I'm guessing. I had it several years ago and paid 8 bucks and last I checked a couple years ago the rate was between 10-20.

If you can see the future while remembering the past, you may just have control of the present.

Fallout Tactics on PC is awesome, and criminally underrated. Most people don't like it because it's tough right off the bat, and only gets harder as you go. It's one the very best squad tactics games I've ever played, and is my second favorite Fallout game. All these years later it still disappoints me how cold of a reception it got. If you're a fan of tactical SPRGs, and you enjoy the world of Fallout, it's a brilliant experience.
As others have said, the PS2/Xbox version is not all the same thing and kinda bad. I've tried to get into it three different times, and it's never stuck. It has some positives like decent graphics and interesting NPCs, but the actual gameplay quickly becomes dreadfully repetitive. I mean, even more repetitive then the average hack'n'slash action-RPG does.

My problem with the PC is by default it's set as an RTS and the first level will annihilate you if you are not much of an RTS player. That being said I heard there is an option in the menus to set it to a turn based mode which if true would make it a lot more reasonable. I've never gone back and checked it out though.

Yes you can choose to play Fallout Tactics in real time or turn based mode. Nobody ever makes it anywhere in real time mode, it's damn near impossible to beat like that. Turn based mode is where it's at, and yes all it takes is a flip of a switch in the option menu.Fragems wrote:My problem with the PC is by default it's set as an RTS and the first level will annihilate you
