I know some of the guys here are long time fans of Mark Bussler. He's pretty much the godfather of online retro game reviews, having started back in 1999. But today, he's decided to ditch the ways of the ad revenue model since it now favors pre-teens screaming at COD streams for two hours instead of slightly higher production value. So if you guys are interested in further supporting Classic Game Room on it's never ending mission to review everything, here you are. He's agreed to start a podcast exclusively for supporters, and to disable ads on future episodes of CGR on YouTube if the goal is reached. There's a bunch of other stuff too, all explained in his video.

It's old, and he seems nice, at least camera persona, but I find it nuts people are willing to throw him nearly $5/mo on average to do dopey youtube reviews. Odd way to panhandle, but less sketchy and annoying than kickstarter and it's copycats.

I like Mark's taste in games and I'm glad to see the Patreon has already made enough for him to continue steadily producing content. It's not incredible, informative content but CGR has always been positive and fun and the channel has caused me to discover several gems that were right up my alley.

I dig Mark, but I thought he was wanting to lay a little low and slow down with all this? Sounded like he was clearly getting burned out and was going to pursue other interests... that didn't last long?

Well, I think Mark is an interesting person, he has a great voice and fun personality (on camera at least). He definitely deserves respect as the elder god of online game reviewing. But the sheer rapid volume of his revised show's output, meant that the videos all ran together into a homogeneous blob of beer and Truxton jokes. I wished he'd have focused on quality over quantity instead. The man never told me anything I didn't already know, nor did his reviews actually come across as, well, reviews. But I don't mean that as a slight against Mark or CGR. Some of this videos are classics, just not enough of them. (CGR Undertow on the other hand was rather terrible.)

Anyway, good luck to Mark! I don't blame him one bit for leaving the Youtube cesspool behind.

I guess not, I was honestly surprised when I first heard he was gonna try this. But according to all his recent interviews and whatnot, he's super pumped to continue CGR. He said a lot of it was because of the giant amount of fan support he got when he first announced that CGR was going back to hobby status instead of a full-time gig.
