Yeah it's a big no go for me :P. The Dev kits were only $350ish with shipping. I understand they have made some pretty big improvements since then but damn I was hoping the deals with Facebook and Microsoft would help keep the price point down a bit or they would at least cut some deals on the first wave to get them out into the market.

I can't imagine buying this until the content is there. I like the idea, but spending $700 for a brand/product without a proven record of support is like buying a 3DO or CD-i at launch...though at least with those you didn't also need a good PC running alongside them

I hope it sells well and gets support, and if so I hope that it costs much closer to $300 by this time next year.

^yup.

$250 was my limit. I figured if it came out (sans controller) at around $250, then I'd prob jump on it as a cool thing to mess with. But for this price - no way. I'll wait until it's proven via library that there's any real reason to *need* one.

Yeah I really think that hiding the price till preorder was a bad idea. I mean up till this point the most info we got was it was "roughly" in the ball park of the original $300-$350 price range they were shooting for. At $650+ after taxes and shipping that is a pretty giant ball park even with a XB1 Controller and 2 "free" games.

I wish they'd given an option of taking off the Xbox One controller since I already have three, but even if they did, that price is just too high. I agree with dsheinem - until there's a bigger library of games, it's not really worth it. I am REALLY excited to play Alien: Isolation with it, but I just can't justify at that price when that and The Forest are the only compatible games I own.

My consideration topped out at about $400. So this will be a wait and see. What do they think this is a PS3 or something?

I was willing to go up to $500, but that was including shipping and tax. Considering it's $600 even without shipping or tax, no way, not until there's either a price drop or a lot more compatibility.

Wow what a great price to launch indeterminate technology onto a skeptical public with practically zero library to float it.

They have the "Touch" controller coming out I think in the fall. By preordering the rift you get a reserved place in line for preordering the Touch later  . Speculation is that the controller & extra sensor will run around $150-200 so it will probably end up being $300-400. So for the full package you are looking at probably at least $750+ Taxes/Shipping on top of needing at least an $800+ gaming rig to run it adequately.
