Good games to practice parking cars?

Post by Ivo »

My wife struggles a bit with parking, and I thought that having a game or simulation where she could practice without fear of damaging her own car would be worth a try.

Ideally, this would be a game with overhead view AND first person / inside car view. But maybe two different games would be easier to find. It would need to be something where you can actually park cars, so strictly racing games wouldn't work.

I thought about GTA 1 and 2 (overhead).

Maybe Microsoft's Midtown Madness (don't remember it well enough, other that the pedestrians could acrobatically jump out of the way - can one park?).

The way I learned how to park well and drive for that matter was at an empty parking lot like the mall or a plaza before anything opened and after they closed at night. Just grab a couple of cones for parallel parking

The PC-PS4-XBone versions of GTA 5 have 1st person view when youre walking and when youre driving. If you dont want an actual simulator that game should do it.

The running gag is don't drive your car as you would in a game due to the smashups when driving fast and agressive.

A simulator might be useful and mainly beneficial for one who has never driven. No, the video game is not the answer.

THIS.

Your wife can practice on the far side a grocery parking lot where there are no cars parked even during the day with weekday mornings plenty of room. Pretend there are cars in each marked stall stripes to back in and parallel park and just practice practice practice. The idea is to get used to the car she is driving.

If your wife can beat the first training mission (parking lot) in the original Driver (PS1), she's ready to parallel park a double-decker bus next.

On a more serious note, there are PC games for this sort of thing:

PLAY KING'S FIELD.

I thought the same thing!

18 Wheeler: American Pro Trucker has parking challenges that escalate in difficulty as you progress. I mean, if she ever fancies driving a truck.

I don't know about parking, but the Gran Turismo games are very, very realistic when it comes to physics, so you could try one of those.

If you can import this  Your country isn't Hong Kong, you should find lots of empty places to practice limited driving techniques.

Can't think of any games to help with parking cars, but after playing Euro Truck Simulator I have a new found respect for big rig drivers. Wow, are those things hard to park. =S
