Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
Re: Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
It kinda came to me last night, but I don't think the original Strider is all that great.

It's visually impressive and feels very empowering... at first. And then it becomes clear that it's actually a somewhat awkward platformer that seems to lack precision.

The hit detection is also a little wonky. The loud sound of the sword swinging usually drowns out the sound of you actually doing damage. I've swung that giant sword and thought I was hitting something until I found out that I wasn't hitting a damn thing.
I've been playing that game on and off for a few years now. I still haven't beaten it yet. At the beginning, I was really enjoying it and I liked the large sword along with the platforming. However, as I've gotten deeper in the game, it just grows more frustrating and annoying. The luster I've had for the game is wearing rather thin.

I've played it a bit via some Capcom compilations and always found it rather meh.

NES Strider > Arcade Strider
Arcade Osman > Arcade Strider
PS1 Strider 2 > Arcade Strider
Facts are facts.

I revised this statement to make it true.

This statement is true.

This statement is true.

This statement is also true.

As someone who's beaten all iterations of "Bionic Commando" except "Rearmed 2":
Bionic Commando NES > Bionic Commando Game Boy > Bionic Commando 2009 > Bionic Commando Rearmed > Bionic Commando: Elite Forces > Bionic Commando Arcade
Bionic Commando NES > Bionic Commando Game Boy > Bionic Commando 2009 > Bionic Commando Rearmed > Bionic Commando: Elite Forces > Bionic Commando Arcade
PLAY KING'S FIELD.

I never played a Bionic Commando game I enjoyed. How's that for unpopular?

Exhuminator and I are completely sympatico on this. I agree with all those assessments.
It's not even that I find the game bad. I just find it a bit above average. Perhaps if I'd experienced it many years ago, I'd have more appreciation for it, but I don't. I loved the reboot, though, and Strider 2 (particularly the arcade version) is tons of fun.
As for Bionic Commando, almost every version I've enjoyed to some degree. If I had to rank them, it'd be:
Bionic Commando NES > Bionic Commando ReArmed = Bionic Commando GB > Bionic Commando: Elite Forces > Bionic Commando ReArmed 2 >>> Bionic Commando Arcade. Haven't finished the 2009 reboot, so I can't weigh in there. The arcade version is close to trash, honestly. ReArmed 2 is alright, but it suffers from some serious directionless level-sprawl, at least in my opinion. It's not nearly tightly-designed enough for my tastes. The addition of a jump, however, does not ruin the game as some might contend.
EDIT: Actually, I'm going to change my order a bit, I can't choose between ReArmed and the GB one, they're both just as good in my mind.
