Random Gaming Thoughts
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
My Saturn is not being happy. I was trying to play Panzer Dragoon and the first time, after I beat the first boss and got past the cutscene the game just froze on the "Stage 2" screen. The second time during the boss fight the graphics started freaking out a bit (polygons not rendering correctly) and it couldn't even load the post stage cutscene.

I happened upon a random YouTube video ranking the most expensive PS2 games and was shocked to learn that Metal Slug Anthology commands around $75-$80 for copies nowadays.
The SNK comps for PS2 were titles I picked up dirt cheap (and new) from Amazon back in 2011.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
I don't even look at prices until I'm actually ready and willing to buy a particular game. Too depressing/stressful otherwise.

It is a genre of game where two teams of players must destroy each other's base. You do so in a RTS style gameplay, controlling a single hero as you level up by killing enemy players and minions, as well as defense towers that block your path to the enemy base.
AL the characters have unique abilities and play styles.
Also a notable genre in that it's one of the few video games where having fun is actively discouraged by both the game mechanics and playerbase.

Older. Not wiser.
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
I've been playing Jet Force Gemini and I gotta say, it's more fun than I remember. I think when I realized that the Machine Gun is the solution to most problems and rockets are the solution for the rest is when things kicked in for me. It helps that I'm willing to use a walkthrough to see the general requirements to get all the Tribals in a particular level (do I need a specific character, a specific key, etc). So far I've only needed to consult it once for actually finding the Tribals in a level because they put them behind a secret door that you'd only find if you utterly fucked up while using the jetpack.

Never beat this one. I want to say I remember it, like DK64, being extremely long?
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
It's nowhere near the length of DK64. Here's the flow of the game:
Go through 9 planets across your three characters. You can collect about a third of the Tribals at this point if you're on the ball. The three meet up at the 10th planet, each one taking a different route that uses their abilities to get to the central pyramid. Each character has a boss at the end of their third planet.
Fight the essentially interactive cutscene boss once all three characters meet up.
Collect the 11 ship parts and all Tribals (the latter getting you the 12th ship part). I think all but one of these ship parts is gotten in the course of getting the Tribals; one of them you need one character to get all the Tribals in a stage but a different one to get the ship part. Most of these levels are new, and the real time sink comes if you don't know what the requirements are to be able to get all the Tribals in a stage (which character, what keys you need, etc) and you risk having to redo it with a different character. That said, at this point you're also familiar enough with the game that you can roll through at a pretty good clip.
Fight the final boss.

I played through Jet Force Gemini earlier this year too and had a blast. It's way better than it's given credit for nowadays.
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
The main thing that's driving me crazy is how you can't turn on a dime when standing still; you always have to run in a tight circle. I've fallen off more platforms than I care to admit that way.

Yeah, that can be a pain. I had more issues with the turning controls reversing when you backed up if enemies were nearby myself.
Have you found the shurikens yet? I went through a lot of the game before I got those, and I wish I'd got them earlier. Really helps with shielded enemies.
