Well, lookie what I pulled out of the closet
This is where my home gaming life began. These are all my very own owns since back in the day originals, all still work and all have their original instructions and all except Football have their original boxes. Except for the Merlin which my wife owned as a kid and the box and instructions are long gone. My first was Auto Race, then Football, not sure of the exact chronology of the rest. There are a few others I would have liked to have had as a kid, but I was thrilled and happy to have had all of these. In my clutch of friends, you were either a Coleco or Mattel Football guy, kind of a precursor to the Nintendo/Sega battles to come! Good golly, the hours of play I logged on these and the innumerable 9 volts I wore out and with which I clogged the trash heaps! I can distinctly remember the marathon Basketball games I played with my then best friend.

Ow! My small intestine!

Ah Merlin, sunk so many hours into that as a kid

The football game on the upper left most of the pic is legit fun-ness. Played the crap out of it when I was a young'n.

Wow! Very cool to keep all the portables since new for so many years. I have a collection myself though most were bought years later. I do have that Battlestar Galactica that I bought brand new back in the 70s. Back then there was no Gameboy and many of my Navy buddies had the Mattel Football game. Not a sports buff, but was hooked on all the Vector Arcade games of the day including Space War, Rip Off, Star Castle, Asteroids and an older raster scan favorite; Blasto. With limited room on board the ship for the Atari, a portable Mattel game a great alternative. Mattel Battlestar Galactica a great bottom shooter with the neat effect of steering the missile after it was launched. A reverse role of the Auto Race game of hitting the targets instead of avoiding.

Yeah, I was reading through that just last night. I'd still like to find a Coleco Football game in good shape just to remember games I had with my old friend Brian. I also have an Atari Touch Me around here somewhere. My Mom bought it and played the heck out of it and it still works. A much easier to carry around version of Simon.

Wow those go way back and I used to have that baseball one fairly recently but age got to it (bought it used last year.) I did as a kid have the Mattel Hockey, really love to get that one again.
Recently I dug out some stuff too, but it's mostly Tiger handheld games of the 80s, have books on a few of them, and also my old Zelda nelsonic watch I keep forgetting to get a battery for. Just because things are decades old and overly basic doesn't make them any less fun as they do keep you going because of the challenge around the simple designs.
