Re: So the whole world is kind of falling apart...
People are talking about how the political outlpook in Spain is complicated and how things have changed forever and all but things look extremely simple to me:
Like always, any potential goverment needs the votes of nationalists parties. Ciudadanos is opposed to any kind of pact with them so the only possibility is a pact between the Socialists, Podemos and two different nationalists parties.
Political analysists are dimissing this potential pact because it's morally repugnant. Well, it is, but given that Podemos already pacted with the political arm of a terrorist organization (Bildu) and a party bent 100% on Catalonian independence (ERC) a couple months ago I don't see why they wouldn't do it again. I'm sure there's not going to be a second round, it's anathema to Spanish politics and the PSOE is not going to call for it when they have a chance to the presidency now.
So yeah, the situation in Spain is the same as always: No matter who wins, the nationalists win more.

Didn't see the irony when i posted it, I meant more towards "internships" which I thought were supposed to be as entry level as you could go(and the easiest way for someone to get into a desired field). But even those are starting to sound like you need so much more experience than your typical college student may have. I don't get how you're supposed to get experience in a field when even that seems barred off to some extent XDdsheinem wrote:The irony of this claim appearing in a post complaining about "entitlement"...darsparx wrote:Too bad though that most of the "entry" level and internship jobs I want to apply for make it seem like you need years of experience to even attempt the job...

This is part where I dont fully agree.marurun wrote:Many folks like to use "entitlement" society and whatnot to refer to the many on welfare. This myth that those folks are just lazy is largely untrue. If there's an "entitlement" society it is rich kids and affluenza. Most on welfare don't want to be there and simply don't have the resources or tools to negotiate an escape. Growing income inequality caused by wealth/power imbalance only makes this worse.
I think someone recently did an analysis and found that almost all startups were founded by people with rich, or at least financially stable, parents. Those startup founders were able to take the risk of creating a startup because they had a stable, supportive, financially solid family to fall back on if they failed. They were empowered to take risks because they had a parachute. People without a parachute take risks just living life every day. They can't afford (in present or future capital) to compound that risk.
I think a big part is most kids dont take school seriously and screw off. Then compound bad life decisions with poor spending habits etc...
So many people who I went through middle and high school with, I see making dumb decisions and choices. These same people didnt try too hard in school. Then you see some of these same people campaigning to vote for someone who will give them free stuff mostly at the expense of those who made, for the most part, better decisions.

I agree with you here, Mustang. The clear majority of people I know that are doing less than optimal in their lives haven't done their due diligence to ensure that they set themselves up for success. If you can't be bothered to turn in your papers on time, or spend a few hours on a day off doing a resume-building volunteer job, or keep yourself from getting so drunk that the police have to step in, you really can't go around blaming the 1% or whatever for your lack of success. You screwed yourself, and you don't deserve success until you put in your work.Jmustang1968 wrote:This is part where I dont fully agree.marurun wrote:Many folks like to use "entitlement" society and whatnot to refer to the many on welfare. Re: So the whole world is kind of falling apart...
I realize there are some people in really shitty situations and some who are in just abject poverty. Many inner cities are like this, and we should try to help fix this issue.
I am more talking about the middle and lower middle class. The entitlement I see is the making bad decisions and the rest of society owes them repeated safety nets. These same people also get caught into living a lifestyle they cant afford and expecting luxuries.

@Pulsar_t
Don't throw around political polls like that, all they really prove is that there are large groups (on both sides) who are quite misinformed, or just flat out apathetic about politics and just pull their selected party line. I can find polls showing the same or higher level of misinformed tom foolery coming from the other side.
Plus, calling 30% of a political group, and 100% of a potential politicians base "deluded morons" does not make your political leanings look any better.

I like to think we live in the kind of enlightened society where making bad decisions doesn't automatically doom you to a life of poverty from which you can never recover.
