I haven't seen those around since I was in middle school. I didn't even realize they still existed.

Now I could really go for a Whatchamacallit.

They're not everywhere. Convenience stores are pretty good about stocking them but not so much grocery stores (at least the section at check out).

This review makes it seem that the Fog control is in it somewhere.

Honestly, I don't understand how any can feel like $20 is too much for this game. You're looking at it wrong if you think you're paying $20 for a 20 year old game. A team of people took the PC game, improved it significantly, and made it so it can run on modern machines. This isn't just a re-release of the same game sold in 1997. Work was put into it, and those people have to be paid.
Dude, I help moderate a retro gaming forum. If you think I have a problem with older games OR re-releases, you're kidding yourself.

The problem isn't that I don't think the people who did the port and updated the code deserve to be paid. The problem is that $20 can get you quite a lot of goodness on GOG or Steam these days, and regardless of how much work was put into the PC port of Turok, it's up against those other options. My off-the-cuff estimate is that at $20 MSRP Turok is a tough sell. As with many originally older games, there will be some nostalgic folks who grew up playing the title and must have it, but for the wider audience, I'm not sure it's a $20 game. I didn't grow up with an N64, and without those rose-colored lenses, I'm not seeing $20 of fun.

I remember being amazed by this game's lens flare effect back in '97. I miss the days of new games having brand new graphical effects that wow me.

PS, it's $15.99 on sale on GoG right now, if that helps. :D

In later November before I fell seriously ill I had bought the game back for $5 locally and had started playing through around a 1/3 of it maybe before I stopped and really was enjoying it. So I don't feel the need to buy it at $16 or $20 right now because I just bought it already and was playing it so it's fairly easy to understand why isn't it? I know work went into cleaning up the PC version which is slightly different than the N64 copy I have but it's not a different game either. If I didn't own it though I'd probably feel differently.

As far as fog goes I know. I just didn't want to rant about it where this game it was atmosphere and something that was so crappily made like Gex64 had to have it likely after the fact to cover up that bad frame rate and graphical issues it had. Some games it's a choice (Turok) and others a necessity.

Maru also brings up a really GOOD point, the price is a hard sell no matter how much some may feel a game is worth. Other titles are bumping into this problem with minor remasters such as the also $20 Grandia 2 up on GoG as well. Sales on that one spike very well with the sales and when it first popped up with the 20% off too, but at full price I'm sure it sits against all the other opportunities up there as it's not a new game after all.

Hmm, I'll take a look through the settings again. Maybe it isn't something obvious.

I never said that. I never even implied it.

So the problem is that because everyone is so use to getting ~4 games for $20 on Steam and GoG, 1 game for $20 is just absurd?

Night Dive's mission statement: "Night Dive Studios’ mission is to bring lost and forgotten gaming treasures back from the depths." That's all they're doing is fixing up and re-releasing old games. According to their website, they've done 77 games so far. So I think it would be safe to assume that they know what they're doing with the $20 price tag. If you look at it like this, then read all the negative comments about the price, you would be sick of hearing about it too. If the game isn't worth $20 to you, then that's fine. But that's no reason to knock the price. It was worth $20 to me, I didn't even hesitate to buy it the split second I saw it was on GoG (well, it was $16 on sale actually, but yeah). And it is worth that much to the plenty of other people who have bought it so far. And when Turok 2 is released, I'll be day 1 buying that one too.

So you never played Turok? Watch the video link I posted in the OP, you tell me then if you don't think it's a $20 game. Let me know if I have rose tinted glasses on.

Let's stop all this bickering and come together on one thing we all can agree on. Dinosaurs are cool and are worth any price to shoot.

Yes n64 needed it but being a game in a jungle and swamp environment it made sense to be there more than not. I hope there is an option for it. I don't own it on pc yet as $20 is too much when I already have it but when its at least half off on gog I'll snapcit up.
I have the N64 and PS2 versions. The DRM free Gog version looks appealing over Steam, maybe if the game dropped below ten bucks worth a 3rd purchase?
