is the n64 worth investing?????

Post by vgaddict »

I have been buying a ton of xbox games for my xbox since gamestop no longer takes them in for trade anymore that means they will start do disappear and then like anything else in gaming world the games are going to price up and it will be harder to find games thus I have to go on ebay. I currently own about 70 titles or so for that system but then I noticed something before my eyes and didn't even noticed it, my son needed help with his goldeneye for the n64. I had gotten a 64 and a bunch of games for that system even though I managed to play a few games here and there when the system was still active but I was always a playstation guy then jumped into a dreamcast then xbox. I never knew what my kids had I simply am starting to fall for the system. I did some research for it and never knew how good the games looked or knew what a great system this was. Thats probably why zelda is voted best game ever for the 64. So now I leave my fate into all your hands people should I start investing in the 64 or just finish off my quest with the xbox games?? P.S I still need about 50 or so more games for the xbox !!!!

Well, personally, the Xbox games are gonna be cheap for a little while longer, then start going back up in price. The N64's already at that point, so it'll be more expensive, though as time goes by, they might get more pricier...still, I doubt it'll match the rate at which the Xbox games will start to go up. I'd buy those as quickly as possible, then move on to the 64, but that's just me.

I personally dont think the N64 was really worth anything, but yea, original Xbox games are gonna sky rocket in a couple years.

id say if u can find good deals for the n64 go for it. it is a worthwhile system and the kids do love it. i just wouldn't be buying one game at a time for it.. find some $2-$5 good games within bundles and have fun collecting. I currently have about 50 n64 games and i really enjoy having them as part of my collection plus they are still great multiplayer games. I need to step up my xbox collection though, its only got 22 titles in it. you should post some picks of your collection sometime, im sure it would be one of the best xbox collections on the board.

As an investment, no. As a console to play some of the most amazing games ever created, yes.

I might be a little biased but the N64 is my most loved of consoles and I've played 'em all.

Zelda (Ocarina and MM), DK64, Mario 64, SSB, DK Racing, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Rogue Squadron, Mario Kart, Harvest Moon...I could go on, but who could argue with that lineup?

I say go for it!

I can understand your dilemma. Collecting can sometimes get difficult when you've got several consoles you need to get more games for.

Basically what I've done is create a spreadsheet with every game I need to buy for each of my collections, and each column ranks their priority (by system), so I've got the Saturn at number 1 followed by GBA and then all of the next gen games I eventually want to get.

Just in case something comes along that I know will quickly go up in price (like an Atlus game) I'll highlight it and make sure I buy it soon.

As for the N64 specifically, It and the NGPC are the only collections of mine that I've fully completed. While I don't play it, nor like it as much as the Saturn, it's still a great system and some games are considered "rare gems" even from a collecting standpoint. That said, I have seen Xbox games going up in price lately, though I don't collect them myself.

Ultimately I think you should just go after whatever collection you'd rather have absolutely completed at the end of the day. You've got the rest of your life to complete them all, but believe me, I understand the urge to do it as quickly as possible.

Personally, I never saw the point of owning physical Xbox discs when you can put a huge hard disc in there and keep dozens of games on it.

N64 carts on the other hand are the only way to play n64 games on real hardware. So that's well worth the investment IMO.

everyone is always down on the n64 mostly because in recent years there is so much hype surrounding xbox and playstayion - when the NES first came out im sure a lot of people could have cared less about the Atari 2600 anymore... but there are some awesome games for the n64 - all of your first person shooters most people are obsessed with these days on any system can be traced back to the n64 who perfected the genre with games like 007 and perfect dark. plus loz:oot and loz:mm (some may disagree) are always worth playing. mario 64 is a game i have been playing a lot recently and its a lot of fun too... even though a bit repetitive and long.

n64 is definitely worth investing in... your kids will choose that over the playstation of xbox when they are young.

money wise I don't know
but gaming wise
hell yeah, it has like 3 or 5 of the best games ever
its cheap, its durable, the games are fairly priced, it has great wrestling games collection and amazing exclusives.
Another good part is that great-good games are limited so you can get like get all the games that are worth it on the system (try doing that on a playstation)

Not to mention worthy of note for being the last cartridge based home system.

Seriously - who misses those besides me?
