Apparently Sega thinks this is an unpopular opinion.
I own and have played through the Japanese version and would buy it as well just too support it happening. (The only reason I haven't bought the digital version to support the localization is not having the drive space on my fat PS3).

I imported 0 and have been playing it lately and it's damn fun. Some of the new elements from 5 and especially Ishin have been incorporated and it's fun to see the dynamic with characters like Nishki in the past. Granted, it's nowhere near as MASSIVE as Yakuza 5. Apparently it's also getting an English translation which I never would have guessed.

I think that leaking info about unreleased games (Eg. Fallout 4 will take place in X place, they are releasing this card for Magic) (1) has no journalistic value, (2) is a dick move towards the creators, who should be able to release their work on their terms.

Apparently this also means that I think gamr journalists should just parrot whatever PR companies want them to.

Sigh :/
I understand this one. Picking up and redistributing leaked info is hardly real journalism and just leads to bad relationships between devs and the public.

Well, I guess a counterargument is that, if the cat's out of the bag, you might as well report it, because everyone else is.

I do think we do ourselves a grave disservice when we refer to most sites and writers in the gaming industry as "journalists". Most of them do not have a journalism background, and on top of that, even folks that come from journalistic backgrounds these days are astoundingly biased.

No, gaming journalism is really more gaming enthusiast media. It's a more refined version (sometimes) of the fan magazines that existed back in the day. And there's absolutely nothing wrong with having that, we just have to realize what it is and what it isn't.

(And I'm sure this has been written about many, many times, so I'll shut up now.)

I think a lot of gaming media is like this, but not all. Just as with movies and music, there's a lot of gossip and drama, but there's also some legitimate reporting in there, too. It's just a matter of finding it and filtering it.

I agree with you that it's more enthusiast media than legitimate journalism, but I don't think that's always a bad thing. Some real journalism would be good, but it's the nature of the enthusiast media, I think, that shows the passion that we have for video games. I think it's more of a boon than a burden.

The only thing modern games journalism is good for is to find out what's coming out when, who's making it, and what's gonna be in it. Other than that, it's mostly a buncha payola spin and inappropriate sociopolitical interspersion. For legit deeper insight about the medium I have to turn to forums.

Isn't that most journalism these days? At the very least, that's a pretty apt description of American journalism.

I'll just say I agree with you. Because if I go off on news journalism in general, it will become an epic rant and will totally derail the hell outta this thread.

Yeah, I think I'd be in the same boat. We've had this discussion before, Exhuminator. :) I'm holding back quite a lot. :)

I do think there is some legitimate reporting in the games journalism sphere, but yeah, most of it is not journalism at all.

That's definitely true. There's always an exception, even to my rule that Call of Duty single player campaigns are horse shit.
