this was posted on the 12th apparently, and I didn't realize it. The money blu did a great job discussing recent and upcoming DC indie titles.

I read this the other day. Badass article. I'm pleased we have new front page content.

Re: Dreamcast indie article on front page
only things I noticed is that it says Leona's Tricky Adventure came out earlier this year. But actually the DC versions hasn't shipped yet. Just the Steam version is out.
And on the flip, it lists Pier Solar as an upcoming project, but it came out a couple months ago.
But still - really great overview.
I've got a few of these in my collection, a few on pre-order, and the rest on my wishlist.

Good call Noise with the thread. In the past it seemed that there was a lot of conversation in the article comments but we definitely should have a discussion thread up for each (especially if folks bookmark "view your posts" or whatever and don't surf the main page).

Hey thanks guys for this! I really appreciate the feedback. I just wanted to get some catch-all for the new developments. Alice Dreams Tournament really excites me along with Saber Riders. For once, I'm excited that it isn't solely shmups that are seeing some love on the Dreamcast.
At the time of me writing the article, Pier Solar hadn't quite shipped and people were concerned that delays were inevitable. Then reports came in after the article had hit the publishing pipeline that it was finally out.
So bad timing all the same. I'll take the flak for it.
There's one more article I have in the works about some online capabilities of the Dreamcast, which I hope will be equally as cool. But thank you all the same!

Good stuff! I wasn't aware just how active the DC homebrew scene was. Looks like they're churning out some neat titles.

alright, I'm sorry to quote myself butTSTR wrote:Good stuff! I wasn't aware just how active the DC homebrew scene was. Looks like they're churning out some neat titles.
At any rate, the DC indie scene has really picked up in the last few years. You're seeing a lot more indie games that are released on Steam, PSN, XBLA with the only physical release being on DC. It's awesome. Also, I know this is nit-picky but I kind of don't like when games such as Sturmwind, Neo XYX, etc are called "homebrew." To me homebrew denotes a sort of hobbyist thing that is just kind of shared within that community. I think of things like Beats of Rage mods. But stuff like Rush Rush, Gunlord, Dux I just think of as independently published unlicensed games. I mean, they are mass-produced and distributed by major retailers (you can find these games on Amazon, Play Asia, etc) with professional packaging.
When Redux is brought to PSN or XBLA I doubt you'll call it homebrew rather than an indie game.
The benefit is that like blu said, for a while a lot of releases were shmups heavy. Now you're seeing a boom in other genres being represented again.

I hadn't thought about it that way, but you're absolutely right; it really has become more indie than homebrew in a lot of ways.noiseredux wrote:alright, I'm sorry to quote myself butTSTR wrote:Good stuff!
