It's just...shocking.alienjesus wrote:You probably shouldn't take this stuff to heart too much, people are dumb.
I mean, I know I hold some controversial views as far as games go but...is this really that bad? Is this really something that pushes me to the far-right equivalent of gaming gatekeepers who hate fun?
I mean, you guys know me. How far am I from the mainstream view of games? Am I really a grognard? Because I saw myself as a quirky guy, no more, no less
Some did say that both Ocarina of Time and Goldeneye ran at 20 FPS so it is a good framerate.Although, which games are we talking about here. With modern stuff, it's indefensible. 5th gen games though? I love a lot of those with frame rates that can plummet pretty low.
It's just...what's next? Defense force for 10 FPS? How low can we get?Exhuminator wrote:Stockholm syndrome is a helluva drug.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
The Odin Sphere remake is going to have two modes. The first is just the original game uprezzed and presumably with the lag removed. The second is a mode that looks like it gives it the Muramasa combat engine. You can see the latter here:

Only way to get me to play that again is for a third mode, NO SEED MODE.
The repetitive nature of the backtracking with other characters and seed leveling gimmick killed that game for me. Is Muramasa different?
Turok without the fog looks straight up like Unreal, haha nice.

I don't know what they're doing with regards to the seeds. But combat-wise Muramasa is very fluid and I saw that reflected in the combat in the trailer. Also, there's things like multiple levels of platforms on the maps rather than just a straight line. Muramasa is pretty distilled down; there's combat and then with the experience you get you can forge new swords. There's also a very basic cooking system where you get drops from enemies/purchase from merchants and then can turn that into a better health item in the menu as long as you have all the ingredients.Xeogred wrote:Only way to get me to play that again is for a third mode, NO SEED MODE.

Yes. Odin Sphere is pretty bad for the reasons mentioned in your post. (I really wanted to like it, but I just couldn't.) Muramasa is totally awesome, and I cannot recommend it highly enough.Xeogred wrote:Is Muramasa different?

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
I've talked about it here before, but it was the same problem for me. Not the seed gimmick so much, but the massive content recycling you had to slog through just to play as other characters. (And of course Velvet was LAST, despite the fact that's the number one character we all wanted to play as.) The original Odin Sphere was a gorgeous looking, badly designed game. I'm hoping this remake can fix the original problems so I can truly love it, like I wanted to do back in 2007.Xeogred wrote:The repetitive nature of the backtracking with other characters and seed leveling gimmick killed that game for me.
PLAY KING'S FIELD.
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
They've definitely fixed the combat. Having the platforms means there's a decent chance that even though we'll see a given background multiple times (multiple characters on the snow mountain, multiple in the city, etc) the stages could be unique between the characters. And yes, we all wanted to play as Velvet.Exhuminator wrote:I've talked about it here before, but it was the same problem for me. Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Muramasa kills Odin Sphere so hard it isn't even funny.
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
It's weird, because I've been able to glom on to Odin Sphere where I wasn't able to on Muramasa. Although part of that could also be my awareness that there is a superior version on Vita.
My question, of course, is how superior? Does anyone have experience with both? I'm likely to get a Vita for Christmas, so I'm wondering if I should go out of my way to snag it or not.
Also, as a random aside: Summon Night 5 is out today on PSP/Vita/PSTV. It's the SRPG mainline series, not the spinoff action-RPGs on GBA/DS.
