I own it, but have not played it yet. I got it back when the OpRain hypetrain was going on. (Of that trilogy, I haven't played Xenoblade yet either. I did finish The Last Story though and it was an 8/10 for me.)

I believe that the surgery-sim/visual novel Trauma Team and adventure game Another Code R are probably my second and third favorite choices on the Wii. Also the diving sim Endless Ocean games are absolutely amazing IMO. Sonic Colors is great as well, and incredibly underrated, but we already had that debate.

I'll stop there... there's a lot of excellent stuff on Wii.

Yous should give it a shot sometime. The graphics aren't going to win any awards, but I thought it was a very solid ARPG with a compelling time-limit mechanic. (It is one of the few games I have ever played where the time limit really matters, and even though the characters aren't real, I still felt pretty awful when I pushed to close to the time limit.) Moreover, the dark-JRPG-fantasy setting is pretty great, and the boss battles are spectacular.

I've been waiting for the mood to strike with Pandora's Tower. It looks kind of like Zelda and Dark Souls.

While I loved Xenoblade, I wasn't really feeling The Last Story. Let alone, it felt like a massive downgrade coming out of Lost Odyssey. A shame Mistwalker seem to be doing nothing more thesedays. Lost Odyssey was amazing and basically felt like a lost PSX Final Fantasy, highly recommended if anyone hasn't played it yet.

Good to hear, I just bought a copy of it yesterday. You and I seem to have rather similar tastes in games so I'm +1 more stoked about playing it.

Far as Pandora's Tower goes, one reason I didn't play it when I first got it was that crazy save game glitch that was going on. I was afraid I'd hit it. Now I have a workaround method printed out so maybe it'll be okay.

If we don't "count" Muramasa (which owns hard) my favorite Wii RPG is Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World. I love that game more than it deserves to be loved. And it helped bring me back into video gaming after an extended hiatus.

You are the first person I've ever seen on a forum praise that game. Did you play the original Symphonia before it?

Actually, no. I played part 2 and then part 1 about a year later (I owned a Wii before I ever had a GameCube, and had to get the requisite GameCube controller and memory card to play part 1).

Both games are great, and pretty similar. I really love the Wiimote/nunchuck control scheme of the second installment though, especially in battle.

(Here's a fun factoid: I didn't figure out how to pull off the best combat moves ["mystic artes"] until I was about 50 hours into the game. This is because I literally couldn't read the instruction booklet due to colorblindness - it's like dark red font on a blue background or something bizarre like that.)

I've noticed that the first game gets heavy praise, but not so much the second one. I find it odd as they really don't feel that different to me. Overall the first has better characters, I suppose.

That's a pretty good description. The time-limit mechanic in Pandora's Tower is really unique, however, and the game does enough to differentiate it self from both LoZ and DS. (In my review a few years ago, I described it as what the 3D Castlevania games should have been.)

As a warning, there is a huge, almost game-breaking glitch near the end of the NTSC version of the game. It almost ruined the experience, but I was able to work around it. (It was still a tremendous pain, however, and I wish it wasn't there.

The Wii has some truly, truly killer games on it, and not all of them are made by Nintendo either. When you start building up your Wii library, hit me up for advice. At one time I owned over 300 Wii games, I know a thing or two about the system.

Agreed. I finished my Wii collection last month, and I probably have almost as many games as Exhuminator. The library really is fantastic, especially if you like older genres (i.e., 2D platformers, adventure games, gallery shooters, etc.).

What are the good 2D platformers and adventure games?

I know the Wario Land Shake It game is essential, I'm not sure on much beyond that. But I've kind of recently rediscovered my love for platformers over the last year or two and now I need more. lol
