When I was a cashier I got so annoyed with people writing checks. you get 20 people all paying with cash or debit/credit and everything is going smoothly. then you get some ass who decided to use a check to buy some milk and a towel, it takes 10 minutes to write one and you have to wait about 30 seconds for the damn machine to process the check, then have them sign some ticket, then put it away in the drawer. the whole thing is just too slow.

I write a check if I owe someone money. Like someone just paid for my plane ticket where she was able to get a better deal, then I use a check instead of giving her a few hundred dollars in cash.

cheques are great for ripping people off - I'm investigating a company at the moment (for my job) who routinely wrote cheques and then cancelled them - £780k unpaid cheques returned over 2 years! ...anyway, better not get into too many details

yeah most people use checks to pay rent. About half of our bills are paid with card, and half with checks. It's not really uncommon.
Re: Who still writes checks these days I mean come on?
I only write checks (cheques) for certain bill payments I mail out (one of the few opportunities I actually get to write these days
) . Otherwise it's all payment by cash or credit.

Yeah when I worked at walgreens a check was a surefire way to guess that they were trying to scam you. And sure enough, about 75% of the checks people wrote didn't go through and then they'd go "What? What do you mean it's not going through? I have money in that account! Ok let me run home and get my debit card"
Of course they'd never come back. Who the hell carries around their checkbook and NOT their debit card. . . riiiiiiight
Re: Who still writes checks these days I mean come on?
Most of my main bills take checks, and my rent takes teller checks. Other than that I only use them if I need some extra time to make sure they don't bounce.(such as payday when ur money just went into your acct.)

Ahh, potatoe potatoAck wrote:I use checks for bills. Also, I think it's interesting that all the guys from the UK and Canada spell it 'cheque' while the Americans spell it 'check.'
