USB adapter to 360/PS3?

Post by ThunderPrince »

*possible stupid question*
so, my buddy got SF4 for 360 and doesn't have the money to get an arcade stick. could he just use one of those xbox/GC/DC to USB adapters on the 360? does the PS3 use USB ports?

this would also benefit me too because the 360 pad is trash for fighters.

My understanding was that the 360 only allows certain controllers to be used with its console, which is why some 3rd party controller makers don't have any of their own controllers on the market yet. (At least, that's what I heard.)

However, I do know the PS3 will accept USB devices.

I've got two adapters for PS3. They both have lag. :(

You need a licence from Microsoft to create third party controllers that use their proprietary wireless tech.

Wired controllers AFAIK don't need this licence, obviously, but I'm not sure about them needing another licence for USB controllers since MS doesn't own the USB format.

To answer the question. No, joypad converters to USB won't work on the 360. Basically, if it needs drivers to work it won't work on the 360. There are some converters made specifically for the 360, however they are ludicrously expensive.

I believe even wired controllers have to be licensed from M$. At least, that's the reason X-arcade gives for not making Xbox 360 adaptors for their controllers.

This kind of garbage ought to be illegal.

You would figure they would let other companies make their controllers, since Microsofts controller is absolute garbage. The directional pad is almost unplayable, The analog sticks get too loose and the triggers squeak. On top of that it doesn't even come with a rechargable battery! So, the total cost of a wireless 360 controller with a rechargeable, $70.00. What a ripoff, I guess when you eliminate the competition you can charge whatever you want, fuckers. I miss the days of $20.00 controllers.

Dealextreme.com has wireless controllers for $30.11 with free shipping. But it comes OEM style, in nothing but a green bag like when you get a new 360. Unprotected like that shipping in nothing but a padded envelope makes me nervous......
