I'm with alienjesus on this one. It's a 13 year old girl, even if she's a fantasy character, she's too young to be used as fan service.....or to be piloting a giant robot xD.

Besides if it was a male character in a thong most male gamers would feel uncomfortable and would ask for his body to be coverred up (see Mobius from Mevius Final Fantasy)

See how easy that was? :) Simply changing her age would have been a lot easier than creating brand new art assets.

The 3D model in the Japanese game doesn't even look 13 to me. She looks closer to 18 honestly (NSFW):

But I'm like "whatever" about this whole XCX censorship thing now. I'm probably done with Nintendo after the 3DS to be honest.

I am totally looking forward to forum reviews for this game though!

Gotta admit I agree with Exhum she looks closer to 18 than 13...

Nobody is saying "ooh, I wish I could see 13 year old girls in a bikini, and Nintendo is robbing me of that opportunity".

People are actually saying "it's a shame to see content that isn't objectionable get removed because Nintendo is overly sensitive about avoiding any possible controversy".

I don't like seeing pointless changes made during localization. It's inefficient and wasteful. I feel like some changes to Xenoblade Chronicles X fall into that category: they don't really benefit anyone, and are made just because Nintendo wants to play it safe. When releasing a niche JRPG on an unpopular console that the media generally doesn't know or care exists, why make that extra effort?

Frankly, I'm still less concerned about Xenoblade edits than changes made to a certain other, recently-released M-rated title where there really was no good justification for the modifications. Neither set of changes affect me in a meaningful way, but they are annoying on principle.

Imagine if Quintet were still around.

Their games sure as hell wouldn't be on Nintendo.

I've asked it before and I'll ask it again, how is changing a characters age not considered censorship? An optional outfit will have no bearing on the story, but changing a character's age could. Are you guys telling me you would rather the story change so a 13 year old can now be called 18, so you can now have the option of seeing her in revealing outfits?

I can agree with the negative sentiment towards removing the breast slider, but not her outfit.

This guy gets it. Bravo sir.

I don't want to further derail the thread, so I will spoiler my final thoughts on this matter. For the two people who care anyway  :
For a little while Nintendo grew out of their censorship habit they had during the 80s and 90s. But nowadays if you want to sell stuff in Japan you need that sweet sweet ecchi flavor. And in Japan Nintendo doesn't mind selling games with it. Yet when the games come over here, it's a big no no. Remember NOA also censored Bravely Default, Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water, and FE: Awakening's Summer Scramble DLC. Just a few examples.

It's just insultingly disingenuous that in Japan Nintendo doesn't mind publishing mature oriented material, but they still want to fake a faux squeaky clean image in the west. Like we don't all have the internet and can't see behind the rising sun over here.
Are you guys telling me you would rather the story change so a 13 year old can now be called 18, so you can now have the option of seeing her in revealing outfits?
You're missing the point. (And making a straw man.) NOA also removed the breast size slider from the game and that affected all the characters, not just the "13 year old".
