So, I was playing a shmup, and was on the second last level of the game with full lives and full power ups. The game glitched.

The game DOES have a level select and a cheat code to get full powered up again though. Does it still count if I use it? I'll have the same weapons and lives etc as I had anyway, and this way I only need to start from stage 6 again, instead of from the very beginning.

I was on track for a 1CC

The problem is that you won't feel like you have done it. I've been in that camp and you don't feel like you have actually 1CC'ed the game if you load a save state or something like that. It's irrational but I don't think I'm the only one.

Yeah, I just started over instead. I beat this time, and still didn't use any continues (though I died a little more).

It's a pretty easy game anyway (I was playing Cotton 100%) so it wasn't a big deal. If it had been like Gradius or R-Type or something I would've been more upset for sure

I agree with your theory based on what I've seen in real life. When I see a kid playing games in a portable fashion, it's always on a phone or more rarely a tablet. As much as it pains me to say it, dedicated handheld gaming systems are a relic of the past, and are primarily sought after by those who grew up with such devices. To be honest it makes sense that this has become the case.

I've been into portable gaming since 1989 when I got my first Game Boy, and I've always been fond of the format throughout the years. But even I doubt that I will buy any more dedicated portables after the 3DS and Vita era is over. If Sony makes a successor to their Vita I'd be surprised. And Nintendo's going to have to majorly step up their first party efforts for me to give a shit about what they're offering these days. Nostalgia wanking just isn't doing it for me anymore.
I realize it's all subjective, but I have really enjoyed the 3DS. I will happily purchase Nintendo's next handheld. In fact, if I'm going to be hesitant about anything it will be their next home console.

I have enjoyed it, and I continue to enjoy it. That doesn't preclude me from being annoyed at missed opportunities Nintendo squandered with the device. As does it irk me that third party support is almost nil as well. If it wasn't for Atlus I wouldn't have bought a 3DS truth be told.

I think the "follow the hostile target" missions are more frustrating than the escort missions. It seems you always either are following the slowest enemy ever and can't get too close or are following someone going at a dead sprint and one slip up means you lose him.

What I really hate in the vein of escort missions is when space sims give me "shoot down the torpedoes to defend the capital ship" as a mission objective. It's not adding variety to the gameplay like they must think it is, it's just taking me away from the exciting dogfights that I want to be having because I'm stuck boredly shooting down projectiles that move in a straight line.

For some reason out of all the game systems I own right now, I think I enjoy getting or picking up ps1 games.
My collection for ps1 titles I have the most of. The way the cd's are with the black label, the cases and manuals, and they look so good on a shelf.

@mas I gotta somewhat agree on that, that's still one of my favorite eras of gaming(n64 or psx). Of course I did grow up playing a lot of DK64(working on beating that one), and SM64(need to go back and fully complete as much by myself since that was one me and my dad beat that one in spurts together but those slide levels can go jump off a cliff...)
My gameroom
My systems: NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, Wii, original gba, gba sp(001), ds lite, 3ds, vita, psp, PSone(101 model) ps2, ps3(320gb model), ps4, retron 5, and Dreamcast.
