They suggestion VirtualBox. Any reason I should go w/ VB or VM one way or the other?

Virtualbox has more features than VMware Player. I haven't used either for gaming but for making OS images, VirtualBox is far superior (mostly because of snapshots).

By the way anyone here still avoiding Windows 10 and having their OS get more aggressive moaning about trying to upgrade? I'm not getting the little corner box anymore so often, now like once or twice a week on boot I get a nice box in the middle of my screen maybe 50% of the screen size if that which slides left/right like 6 ways over telling me how wonderful it is and why I have to click to get it.

Annoying.

You might be interested in this. I've been using this for about a week on both my machines and it does the trick. Best of all, if you ever decide on finally getting 10, you can turn it off and on at will. No installation, just a stand-alone executable.

I may need to put that on my laptop. Since some windows updates this week, I would daresay my laptop has become belligerent about me upgrading. The damn thing pops up constantly and I feel compelled to break my concentration to close it every time.

Personally, I haven't played with VirtualBox's 3D graphics. Main reason I usually think of VMWare n' such is that they actually seem to highlight Direct3D as a feature, instead of making it an experimental thing to optionally turn on.

All the new parts are in, and hopefully correctly connected inside the case. The thing is rather monolithic looking, and yet rather empty except for all the cables everywhere. Glad it doesn't have a window. I hate cases with windows...

No time to get it tested and up and running tonight. That's a project for tomorrow.

Because I didn't finish putting the parts together until midnight, and I would much rather turn it on when I had time to troubleshoot random issues. It was a good idea, because I did have some crap to sort out today.

So I'm not sure how I feel about the new Windows 10 build at least in an enterprise setting. Currently the only way to get it on the Enterprise version is to download the new full OS ISO and run an upgrade installation from that. When you do that, it removes certain programs like RSAT and Piriform products like CCleaner. On top of that, you are left with a Windows.old folder which takes up a ton of space.

Apparently the WSUS version of the upgrade is coming mid-December but you have to be running WSUS on Server 2012 or 2012 R2 and have KB3095113 installed. Guess I'll be building a new WSUS server soon.

Oh and the Group Policy files for the new build cause an error when you try to make Group Policy changes if you have the Windows 8/Server 2012 Group Policy files installed on your domain controllers. Luckily that is an easy fix. You just delete WinStoreUI.admx and WinStoreUI.adml from your PolicyDefinitions folder.

And even though it doesn't really hurt anything, when you import the new build's ISO into MDT, it shows up as a Technical Preview. It seems this thing was really rushed out the door. Microsoft if really going to have to smooth this upgrade process out if they want businesses to adopt it. (Yes I am aware of the Long Term Servicing Branch version of Enterprise but who doesn't want those fancy new features that come with the Current Branch version?!?!)
