There are medals that appear as you kill enemies. The medals are rotating - if you pick it right as it faces you and "shines", it's worth 2,000, if you get it when it's completely vertical to you (180 degrees from shine position) it's worth 200, to the side of that, just before and just after shine are worth 500 and 1,000.

If you get one at 2,000, and then another at 2,000 - that's called a chain (it will actually say chain on screen, most games have chaining, but it doesn't actually tell you). If you get a 3rd at 2,000, it's another chain and your chain bonus will go up, it starts at 500 (plus the 2,000), then 1,000, then 2,000, etc...

I've managed to score 150k+ on Stage 1 a few times.

Thanks for explaining that. Unfortunately, I'm scoring lower now...

And we'll always be friends. And I would never take you for granted in a million years. And I miss you, man. And I love you.

Thanks?

Yes - Right Trigger on DC is autofire - you can map it to another button. I don't use it - it's too hard to get back and use your power shot mechanic, so I just tap tap tap.

Yeah I'm kind of going back and forth - using auto on some runs and not on on others. But I'm getting the hang of using auto and then laying off it to power shot.

Things to remember - chaining medals is where your points are at. I had 115K on stage 1 my first run, about 35K of which was medals.

That just means you're learning. This is a common shmup phenomenon, at least to me. You play a game on a very base "shoot stuff, don't die" level and you get whatever, 100k pts. Then you actually learn about scoring and understand the game more and at first you're doing 50k because you're playing completely differently. But after you get over the hump you'll go up to 200k+ because now you're comfortable playing w/ this new information AND you're playing better.

I hope that's how it works. I am finding it difficult to chain the medals. At least on the MAME version you have to hit the medal a split second before the flash. If you hit it right on the flash, it doesn't seem to count.

But I never even heard of this game before reading this thread yesterday afternoon, so it could be worse.

Either way, my apologies to whomever is unlucky enough to be stuck with me on Team 7! :D

The timing on medal pickups and bombs seems slightly off on DC and PCB as well; so I imagine MAME is similar. You just have to adjust to it. I've always considered this the hardest game to bomb-save yourself. Part of it is by design - you get "nice bomb" bonuses the longer you wait - it's tricky.

Anyone recall the location of the medal spewers on each stage? I can't recall them and google isn't helping.

Also - embarrassed to admit...how do we unlock Aine? I believe he's on all formats so should be legal to use.

I have actually been doing OK on my "nice bomb" bonuses - probably because I usually wait way too long to use bombs in shooting games. Right now, my goal is to make sure that I don't have any bombs left when I lose my last life. I get frustrated when I die and I had unused resources.

RE: the medal spewer - Is that the pinata face that spews... green things? It pops up from time to time but I hadn't noticed a pattern to it. I was also dodging the green things.
