Agreed. I "get" that retro gaming and collecting are inextricably linked at this point, but anything that focuses on gaming from a purely financial/possessive standpoint gets a huge thumbs down.Xeogred wrote:The Game Chasers are the worst. That TurboGrafx-16 review though........

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
I think I want a Xbox One just for the Rare Replay disc alone.

They used to be a lot better. I watched them when they were on Retroware and they had some really good episodes. However, once they left to go full on Youtube, I've tried watching some of their stuff and it is just awful.Xeogred wrote:The Game Chasers are the worst. The constant cursing, burping, farting and just disgusting behavior felt like I was watching 1980's Movies Frat Boys pretend to be nerds/geeks and buy games at rock bottom prices. It's neat to see what they run across out in the wild, but their personalities have gotten a bit much for me.
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
It's part of the 1TB holiday bundle, along with Gears HD and Ori and the Blind Forest. While Ori is just a download code (download-only game anyway that I recall), Gears and Rare Replay are actually the individual game discs stacked up inside a single case, much like the X-Box and 360 combo packs of yore. (I bought one, it showed up yesterday)Soldier Blue wrote:I think I want a Xbox One just for the Rare Replay disc alone.
Unrelated, FFXI has end credits now o_o; So is it now an MMO that can be beaten? Obviously, the vast majority of what can potentially be done isn't part of it, since it's only considering the main storylines, but still.
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Ori and Rare Replay are both great. I've only played a little of the Gears remaster, but it seemed pretty good. It brought back lots of memories of playing the original.

That, and Insect Armageddon doesn't have the same je ne sais quoi as the main series.marlowe221 wrote:Thanks man, but I already have that one.BogusMeatFactory wrote:This is a start.marlowe221 wrote:I really want the Earth Defense Force games ported to PC.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
I got the Retro Gamer Videogames Hardware Handbook today at Barnes & Noble. Great stuff. Tons of info and pictures. Lots of coverage of obscure Euro computers. Plus an entire VIC-20 feature, which is awesome.
But the selection of systems covered seemed random and incomplete. Mega Drive but no Master System? Famicom Disk System but no NES/Famicom or SNES? I noticed later the spine says "2015 Edition" - some internet research tells me this is actually Volume 2, so I assume the previous guide covers those other notable systems. Still, taking both guides into account, everything is presented out of chronological order which is irritating (Commodore 64 is in Volume 1, and the VIC-20 and Amiga are in Volume 2, for instance). Additionally, both guides begin at 1977, which means the Odyssey and Channel F are excluded. Seems kind of arbitrary.
Despite the issues it's a really great resource and I love reading about stuff I'll likely never see let alone play like the ZX Spectrum and Amstrad CPC. Oh, and this is a "bookazine" (a big ass magazine) so look in the magazine section.

I propose we call it a "magazook" instead, because that sounds sillier.BoneSnapDeez wrote: Oh, and this is a "bookazine" (a big ass magazine) so look in the magazine section.

That sounds pretty cool. I wonder how hard it would be to get a copy of Volume 1...BoneSnapDeez wrote:I got the Retro Gamer Videogames Hardware Handbook today at Barnes & Noble. Great stuff. Games with alternate costumes crack me up. It's really hard to take Kratos seriously in the first place, it just gets worse when he's wearing a cow suit.
