Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Advice on creating a game room

Post by mas »

So im just settled in my house and I have a spare room for a game room. I need help and ideas on creating either a theme and if so where the hell can I find this stuff.
I'm thinking of 80-90's type of theme. Old school movie posters, vhs, old stereo system, boom box, maybe some wood paneling that can peel on or off.
For my systems, I want to get popular systems that everyone knows or remembers.
A wood grain 2600 is my ideal system but I would rather get the 7800 since I can play both 2600 and 7800 games on the system.
Nes
Snes model 1
Genesis model 2
PlayStation 1 which I own
N64 which I own
Dreamcast which I own well just gotta get the av and controller

Besides getting the systems which will take time, where do you think I should start looking for this stuff?
I also need a good crt TV, and I was thinking of a 20inch and I have a couple transformers and some ljn wrestling dolls and I was thinking of getting some gi joes and maybe some other toys but I don't remember or what I should get and I need a display to put them in so I was thinking a book shelf of some sorts? Anyways any ideas would be great thanks

I would focus on the room itself, not the games.

That is, ultimately it's going to be a room with a big CRT and a sofa or other comfortable seat in front with shelves on the walls. Try to decide first what kind of furniture you want, posters and the like can come later, specially since their frames would ideally match the furniture and not the other way aorund.

Personally, and from what I see around, your biggest worry should be it turning into an ugly man-cave instead of a cool room to hang out. But I think you shouldn't have a problem with that if you focus on the furniture and don't stick posters with cello-tape

Well its not a large room. The family room with my sons ps4 and the love seat and the bar table and chairs are set.
The room to the side is its smaller so I have to go simple so maybe the fold up couch chairs black ones which I have two.
The next thing is that a 20 inch TV will be just right for the room size. Not too large but ok to be good enough to see and not so much to kill the room.
Also I'm thinking of a entertainment center with only a door to the side. If I put a large one in it will cludder the room.
Lol thank god I don't have all those Genesis games anymore or a ton of Dreamcast games.

The only thing I'm going to do for the other systems that I own or going to own is get the top ten games or maybe 20 common games that everyone owned or remember playing with. The Genesis and snes I'll get everdives for.
Dreamcast I will burn the games or hope to if someone get do that for me.
Psone I have enough of
N64 everdrive
And with the Atari hopefully I can get a 7800 here. If not then maybe a bundled woodgrain model with a bunch of games
