I say no, because I'm still slowly working towards completing my 32x collection and I don't want you taking product off the market!

I kid of course. You seem to have already made your decision, but I'll still pipe in and say that I love the 32x and it is fun to collect for. Go for it.

I sold off my 32X collection without regrets. If you want to be someone who likes to check out all the ports, I guess it's worth a go, but if you're looking for a quality experience today, to me the 32X is valueless. For one, Knuckles Chaotix is not a good game, Kolibri is all right and Tempo is a bit better. The rest of the stuff isn't amazing enough to justify owning. There's no killer app, and where the 32X beats competition, it does so by only just a little; more often, however, it itself is smoked by the Saturn or PC (for Doom).

I have 8 games for the 32X, CIB. They've sat on my shelf for the past 7 years. I think one of the capacitors exploded in my console one day, because all I can get it to play now is genesis carts. I remember seeing a similar post somewhere in the Sega boards, but it's likely not an easy fix, if my memory serves me right.

At the time, I loved Virtua Racing, Virtua Fighter, Knuckles Khaotix, Star Wars Arcade, and Shadow Squadron. It's a neat little console. Got it for $19.99 when Toys 'R' Us was selling all of it all off.

My boxes have survived a few moves, but most of the cardboard tends to get frayed on the corners. This coming from a kid who actually did take good care of his games growing up.

But it's up to you. I think the console looks pretty sweet on a Model 2 Sega Genesis with a Model 2 Sega CD. I liken it to a space warship, launching lots of 16-bit laser beams straight into your eye spots.

I have a pretty decent-sized (IMO) 32X collection and have to admit, I mostly hang on to the system and the games out of nostalgia. Knuckles' Chaotix is okay, Kolibri is a passable way to spend some time, Tempo has great art/style paired with bad gameplay, and even though the ports of Blackthorne, Mortal Kombat II, and Sega CD FMV games are top-notch, they really aren't stand-out games by modern standards IMO. BUT HEY, it's still fun to have 32X games!

...except the system is FRUSTRATINGLY UNRELIABLE. Just about every time I want to play a game, I have to open it up, pull out the two flat-cables and re-insert them or else it doesn't work right. Knuckles' Chaotix and Primal Rage don't seem to work with my model 2 Genesis. I judging by how warm the AC adapter gets, it's using up a fair amount of juice if I have it connected when I want to be playing Genesis games. And relating to that "flat cable" problem, it sometimes messes up those Genesis games!
But it makes your Sega Genesis/CD setup COMPLETE! And it makes your Sega games even COOLER because they have to go through the 32X AND THE "X" STANDS FOR X-TREME!

I can't honestly recommend the 32X but I understand the desire to have one anyway.

The 32X as a pierce of technology, is a piece of something else as well. There's a lot about it that makes it frustrating, the least of which are getting a working one with all the parts and needing two giant power bricks to fuel all of that Sega might.

But the library has more good games than bad, including some absolutely fantastic arcade ports. This would be the primary reason I'd suggest a 32X as others have obviously already covered.

Does that make it worth it? I'm not sure. There are better and/or more hassle-free ways to play arcade ports today and the exclusives aren't must haves, even though I am a fan of Shadow Squadron and Kolibri is the best hummingbird based shooter available.

My 32X kind of collects dust because I don't keep it hooked up all the time due to limited space and every time I feel like playing a 32X game the need to do that kills the drive.
