Oblivion Lost is its own thing, and I know that it interferes with some of the stuff that Complete puts in. I've also played through with the Complete mods...I've played that game a lot...

Does Complete 2009 get your vote? I know there's more out there nowadays like LURK and maybe some others I don't know about.

I couldn't say with things like LURK, but Complete was totally worth going back to the game for, as was Oblivion Lost.

Here are notes on Oblivion Lost 2.0, though they are apparently up to 3.1 now:

http://www.gsc-game.com/index.php?t=com ... offset=360

Just some of the changes...
DYNAMIC ANOMALIES
- The anomalies change their positions after blowouts.
- Stronger anomalies can appear and they will be very deadly.
- Be careful of them if you are driving cars, now the routine which you learn in the vanilla game is useless.
REWORKED AI
- The npc's can avoid anomalies.
- The npc's can throw grenades.
- The npc's can use medkits, heal themselves and each other.
- The npc's can upgrade and replace their armor and they will collect suits and weapons found laying about.
- There are no dead npc's around campfires, but if someone dies near one, the campers will drag the corpse away.
SLEEPING
- Now Marked One gets tired after 30 hours of action: it begins to double your vision, etc. If you continue to play and will not sleep, Marked One will fall asleep approximately after 6 hours.
- You can't sleep for a while if you had an energy drink.
- You can't sleep during blowout.
- To sleep, use the sleeping bag in your inventory..

Open World is, in my opinion, the single greatest thing to come from this generation. I know it existed beforehand, but it really hit it's stride with games like Fallout 3, Elder Scrolls IV:Oblivion, and GTAIV. Also worth mentioning are Just Cause, Far Cry, & even the Lego Games, which all do the genre superbly.

I like it because I enjoy the feeling of a living, breathing world where you not limited in any of your choices. That's why Oblivion is one of my favorites. {and yes, I did play Morowind first. ;) } I did literally everything I could in that game, and love it to pieces.

Just went back and read the post again, and I wanted to add:

No one should feel bad for what they do or don't like about games. Nowadays, it seems like everyone takes gaming way too seriously. Whether your a Madden fan or a Record of Agarest war fan, gaming is ment as a fun hobby. :)

So, while I may disagree with you, this isn't truly a situation where anyone can be wrong. It's just varied opinions.

A little off-topic, but I for one hate Beat 'em Ups. I've played Battletoads, Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, Die Hard Arcade, & Final Fight, and I can't bring myself to truly enjoy them. They just feel bland and generic, and repetitious. I'm not wrong for disliking them, but no one else is wrong for liking them, either. :P

Ultimately, I feel most of these games are "Medieval Errand Boy Simulators" with some dull combat and triete dialogue throw in. I don't have anything against the concept but when I played Fallout 3 or GTA V I kept tgetting bored because a huge amount of content matters very little if that content is not engaging.

Take Fallout 3, for example. I don't find anything about the game interesting:

- The dialogue is unnatural and rigid. Most characters you interact with are flat and the game doesn't offer you the chance to express your personality beyond mechanically identical options.
- Most conversations are dumb. You can convince people to do something just by telling them to do so.
- Missions are all a matter of going to a place and beating someone up or retrieving an item. Sometimes you can talk your way out of a situation, which feeds back into my two previous complains.
- Combat is pointless. You can walk backwards and never get hit while aiming is not necessary because there's an auto-aim system and enemies move in straight lines.
- Exploring brown environments with copypasted rocks and destroyed buildings is not interesting. Doesn't help that the art direction dull and lifeless.
- Resources (Ammo, health, money) are abundant and obtaining them is a matter of putting time, not skill or knowledge.
- The level-up and "crafting" mechanics do not add anything to the game. You could remove it from the game completely and nothing would change. There's also no effective differences between different kind of weapons, a laser rifle is the same as a bullet rifle.
- The moral choices are infantile. It's not interesting to choose whether Megaton blows up or not.
etc, etc.
