This morning, I grabbed a copy of World Series Baseball starring Deion Sanders for the Sega 32X. (Believe it or not, it is one of the most valuable games for the system.) I am wondering whether I should: (a) start a "cart-only" Sega 32X collection since I now already own one of the most valuable games in the system's library; or (b) sell/trade it to get more games for my existing collections.
Thoughts? (I have never owned a 32X...)
Should I Start a 32X Collection?

I don't see where I can vote, but I don't think anybody should collect anything cart-only.

32x allows for a boost in video quality for fmv games by getting the booster cartridges for said games so yes you should.

Cart only is the way to go. Paper cost stupid money on some systems.noiseredux wrote:I don't see where I can vote, but I don't think anybody should collect anything cart-only.
prfsnl_gmr,
Knowing you, you have already scoped out the scene and have leads on several of the other harder to find titles. Ill give you until end of Q2 next year to have the full list.

Sell it so that you can buy a 32X and a few of the good 32X games.

I don't want to do a vote. I just want some thoughts (on collecting, on the system, etc.) so that I can decide what to do with it. (I really am on the fence here.) Also, I sometime regret collecting CIB Genesis and NDS games. (The carts are cheap and plentiful, but CIB games are increasingly hard-to-find and expensive.) Since, to my knowledge 32X games only came in cardboard boxes, I will only collect carts (if I decide to collect for the system at all).noiseredux wrote:I don't see where I can vote, but I don't think anybody should collect anything cart-only.

This morning's find was a bit unexpected. I saw the game at a local pawn shop (where it has probably been sitting for weeks), and I passed on it. On the way to my car, however, I thought, "Isn't one of the 32X sports games pretty valuable?" A quick Google search on my phone confirmed the game's value, and I walked briskly back in the store to pick it up.
That's a good idea, but with such a small library, I would probably be compelled to get every game for it if I started a collection.bmoc wrote:Sell it so that you can buy a 32X and a few of the good 32X games.

You know, Dsheinem might be a good choice to reach out to. I believe he collected a complete set a few years back and was always happy to extol the virtues of the 32X.
And I know what you mean about cart-only. I don't collect boxes or manuals for that reason.

Right. If it's a "collecting" thing - then CIB is the way to go, for both aesthetics and value, imo. Spiderman is not good and is VERY expensive - especially if you go CIB, even loose will run you a few hundo now. So the whole collecting bad but expensive games thing.noiseredux wrote:I don't see where I can vote, but I don't think anybody should collect anything cart-only.
Kolibri and Tempo are probably the only 2 games I consider worth owning on the 32x and neither are legendary - they are just the best of a small/bad library.
Sell it. Get a supergun. Thank me now. Thank me later.

That's one that eluded me when I was actively collecting (I actually like the series, and of course SPORTS), nice find.
Based on the wildly ranging completed auction prices, this one seems to be pretty static in value, as sports games - even when rare - are much lower on the retro inflation index.
That said - flip it and use those funds towards other collections. Especially cart-only.
