So i got a rather scratched copy of gta for psx. And i tried it in both psx and ps2 but in both cases only the intro videos played but the game stops right after. On a whim i figured why not try running it with bleemcast and while i wasnt able to play it i was able to get to the menu screen and was able to pick a city but it hangs on the loading screen.
But i find it interesting that the dc fared better at emulating this cd than the actual hardware at playing it.
Again the dreamcast surprises me.

The Dreamcast is probably the most impressive piece of console engineering of the 3D generation. It's an excellent combination of power and ease of development, not to mention cost. It's too bad Sega's last "hurrah" was a demonstration of such artistry and restraint, especially given some of the stuff they've put out in the past.
Re: Again the dreamcast surprises me.
I can swear to god that the Dreamcast is the most valuabe(worth it) system out there.
Used ones are pretty cheap, new ones cost only $100.
You don't need a chip to play ripped games(handy when a game too expensive, rare, or want to test drive it maybe)
Games are available with fair prices
ISO are popular
The community is fantastic.
To be honest, it is hard to get around a game that really sucks on the dreamcast. It must have that highest ration of good games to bad games. I don't think there is even shovel ware for the dreamcast.
Now include one of the best collection of shooters and fighters for one system and add that to amazing exclusives of Sonic adventure1+2 and Shenmue 1 + others.
I am still wondering how did this system fail, when its original price was only $200 as far as I heard. That is less than the wii today, and it was top technology back then.
HOW?

Lack of customer confidence in the brand coupled with the looming PS2.

Re: Again the dreamcast surprises me.
Infighting between the Japanese and American branches of the company, mostly stemming from the Japanese side not willing to do what was necessary to appeal to the American market.
Re: Again the dreamcast surprises me.
It's interesting you should mention that. I think that's not as much a factor as some people think. That was more of a problem with the Saturn. The Dreamcast actually did quite poorly in Japan and did decently well in the US until Sony's FUD hit its peak. There were lots of American and European developed games.Ack wrote:Infighting between the Japanese and American branches of the company, mostly stemming from the Japanese side not willing to do what was necessary to appeal to the American market.

I would have loved to see what would have happened if the Dreamcast had a DVD player.
