I'll say. In recent years we've got Planet Ring, Toy Racer and now AFO. So cool!

So I've been playing DC on and off the past couple of weeks (and found 4 faulty discs I'll be sending in to Game Disc Repair)

Has anyone played Expendable? It's an early isometric run n gun by Rage Software. The explosive action is there, but damn if they put you in situations to destroy stuff that requires a certain weapon. Case in point today: Level 7 with the "transporters" you have to destroy to move on. The advice item says you need a homing weapon to do that since they're not at ground level. So I get there with one, take out 3, can't take the other one out because it stopped homing or something, then run out of ammo for that weapon. Enemy weapon drops aren't getting me anywhere. I call this game fun yet frustrating.

its been a while since i revisited this game. Yes the game can be a bit frustrating and perhaps a bit to chaotic. I remember losing myself in all the particle effects, explosions an other enemy characters. It was fun then at some point it become repetitive an a slight chore to play. It just didnt quite hit the target for me but was close. It didnt have that It thing for me. I never did pass it if my memory serves me correct.
Curtsy when you walk by that Dreamcast

I haven't kept up in a while... what's the latest on easiest/cheapest way to connect the DC to your PC to rip/backup your own physical DC games?

It turns out I was doing it wrong on Level 7 of Expendable. There's a weapon that you can manually control to aim up at those "controllers", therefore completing the level.

This game never exactly holds your hand. I had to find this out from the internets.

I also played Virtual On: OT recently. Damn does Grys-Vok break the game. Both triggers + X button = missile orgy.

I'm always so reluctant to look at this thread because there's so many Dreamcast games I want to get but don't have the money for  Cannon Spike and Elemental Gimmick Gear both look fun, never heard of either

Capcom + Dreamcast = expensive, for the most part. They had a lot of good stuff on the DC.

so my wife and I have some plans to do some work on the basement bar. This has me considering a makeover on the old "Dreamcab" to make it look a lot classier. Although this means I'll end up needing new arcade sticks... and games... so we'll see.

alright, prepare for a bit of a mas-like post

I mentioned recently wanting to come up with a cab-like setup for my basement. And when putting together a list of favorite arcade games, something dawned on me. Many of them are Dreamcast games. Ones that weren't ported to PC. So I started re-assembling a new Dreamcab. Something a bit classier. And I made some progress over the weekend, though I still need arcade sticks and speakers.

But reading up on this stuff, it really hit me. For modern games, PC is my main focus. Well, for many old games too. But as far as consoles go, it seems the only one that I continually gravitate towards is Dreamcast (and NGPC for handheld). These are the only systems that I've multiple times purged only to realize that I have a serious attachment to them. To be honest Dreamcast has a pretty special place to me. I first got my console when we were in a financially tough spot. I remember trading in a bunch of crap at a local store and coming home with a handful of new DC games that I knew nothing about. Games that have really stuck with me over the years, like Daytona or PSO. So yeah, I'm back into this stuff. I imagine some of you had pools going, so whoever had November 6th-8th should be a rich man.

Now what I have realized when looking back on my fond memories is that the real fun came not from going over eBay everyday and scooping up large lots to go towards 'collecting,' but rather picking up one or two games at a time. Either buying a certain game because I had a reason I wanted to play it right away, or the thrill of finding something in the wild - as rare as that was. I loved really delving into a game, reading the manual cover to cover, and getting deep into it.

Right now my DC collection is very small. And I don't plan to bulk it up quickly. I ordered Gunbird 2 (and may bite on Under Defeat) for STGT. But right now I'm not rushing anything. Like I said, I need 2 arcade sticks. And I am considering Ghostblade once I get the "cab" set up.

I'm also considering bringing back my noiseredux vs. Dreamcast blog - I have about half of the write-up's archived... lost the other half. :\

As far as how my Dreamcast gaming is going - I played some DOA2 on Friday night. And tonight I've been continuing my season in NFL 2K... I'm 14-0.
