"Conspiracies and agendas" is a bit much and making me seem like a tin foil hat, it's just the drama of a dying forum where mods increasingly feel the need to be in control, and over regulate for the sake of it. I've seen it happen more than once but it's quite depressing to see it happen to a forum as great and influential as racketboy once was. An important and crucial member like Luke being put in the sights because he said boohoo woman peepee in a thread, in a context that should basically be considered whatever/pointless, is pretty good evidence of the over-control that has been happening. I won't speculate further than that because, who cares what I have to say (also because there are several mods here that I very much respect), but clearly it's ridiculous because a few years ago there wasn't retarded garbage like this happening. Actual discussion was more important than trying to pigeonhole posts.

I don't post that much and don't really spend as much time here as some of you other folks, but from what I have experienced, the mods handle things in an relatively even handed way.
But as I say, there may be a bunch of things that I may have missed since my visits here tend to be brief.


My particular issue (and it's really less of an issue but more of an observation) is that there is a section of members here with a bit of a smug/dismissive type attitude.
It doesn't bother me in that my visits here are minimal, but I could see how, if others have picked up on this as well, that it would rub one in an irritating way.

The way I see it is sometimes the jokes go to far even after being here for a good long while it's hard to tell whats a joke and what's not. Even when a few posts after an outburst someone posts oh it was just a joke if you didn't get it you are simple minded it's still hard to tell if that's genuine or just an excuse for blowing up on someone. If I were a new member and saw some of the attacks even if they were explained to be a hoax/joke I would find this to be a pretty hostile place quite frequently.

There also are quite a few members who seemingly get taunted into an arguments on a regular basis and/or treated like shit . For instance Tanooki gets tossed under the bus pretty much daily. I don't agree with many of his views, but I don't go out of my way to harass him or put him down. Plus while his views don't always line up with mine it would suck if everyone here shared the same opinion on everything.

Why are people going so far out of their way to escalate this situation anyways if anything pushing admins buttons is going to break the community more not fix it. Maybe we should have a townhall topic or something where we can post our issues and what we think should be done as opposed to throwing a mini protest. For instance some good stuff has been brought up in the leaving thread about how we need to generate more articles for the front page, be more welcoming to new members, and etc.

The thing is its not the blue text jokes I'm talking about . If people were so obvious that would be fine by me to a point.

It's when there is a blow up on a less popular member and everyone writes it off as a joke. It's kind of like the April fools jokes which can get down right mean and occasionally draw new people in who don't know whats going on.

For instance if I had joined around the time of the previous April fools joke I don't know if I would have stayed. Things just went way to far and I was genuinely worried after a while even though I was 99% positive it was a joke.

This is a derail, but I have to respond to this.

"Cunt," in my personal North American female experience, is the worst insult possible. There is a seething contempt behind the term, almost like a slur. What a lot of women hear when they are called a cunt is "you are nothing but genitalia to be used, and I am deliberately reminding you of this to put you in your place." When a woman hears dudes calling dudes cunts, it's upsetting that men are insulting each other by basically saying "don't be such a girl!", but what's worse is that the loaded insult gets turned into a lighthearted joke when female targets aren't around. So yes, maybe it's "not so bad" when dealt from dude to dude, but that phenomenon itself is problematic.

But of course, the word is treated differently in different parts of the world, and plenty of women use the term and ain't give a damn. Keep in mind that my view is not universal. My point is, though, to be aware that it can be loaded with baggage and is definitely not going to be seen as the same thing as calling someone "stupid." There's a larger context.

Also, no woman gets called a cunt and says, "Well at least they referenced my vagina; I would have been really insulted if they'd called me a dick!"

Also also, douching is actually bad for you. So calling people douche bags is A-OK in my book.
