Nintendo Power collecting is almost entirely fueled by nostalgia, though there's plenty of fun stuff in those mags even aside from that. GameFan is partially due to the high quality print, but also due to the company that now owns GameFan going after any site that hosts scans of the magazine while not actually providing back issues themselves.marurun wrote:OK, so maybe my earlier comment is a bit glib. Is this a thing? Are gaming magazines now collectibles? Is it mostly nostalgia or is there real value in these?
There's also just some of us that prefer the physical thing over reading online. Like, sure, I could go to online sources, but I'd still prefer picking up a new copy of Retro Gamer. It's like how people will collect PC games almost entirely for the feelies.
Anyway, I know that if I saw Official Dreamcast Magazine, Saturn Magazine or Gamer's Republic in the wild, I'd probably pick those up as well. Never actually seen the Saturn Magazine to be honest, but from PDFs I've read it looks interesting.
