You guys might laugh at me for this, but I always thought that the first Double Dragon on NES was impossible. It starts easy enough, but towards the end the difficulty spiked so much. The furthest I could ever get was to the guy with the gun. And I played the game A LOT as a kid.
Never could beat Mike Tyson either, so he's my toughest boss. But I wouldn't put Punch Out anywhere near the ranks of hardest old school games ever, obviously.

You got further in NES Star Wars than I ever did. I never could get through the Death Star. Probably because I usually didn't survive the last run to the Millennium Falcon in Mos Eisley.
