So what have you guys been watching lately?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

So Supergirl is a hit

I think it was a decent pilot. They didn't waste any time getting past the origin story and already establishing the players, the villain, and who does or doesn't know her identity. And they even got the obligatory Superman related stuff out of the way all in 60 minutes. There's gonna be a lot of comic book shows in 2016

I felt like the pilot wanted another hour's worth of timeslot; the pace was pretty breakneck. I did like that they didn't shy away from the fact that she's going to get her ass beaten as part of being a superhero. I'm definitely going to give it a few more episodes to see how they evolve the characters.

I've been sick the last few days so between Splatoon marathons, it's been non-stop "Turn-A Gundam". It finally got localized earlier this year - I have been wanting to watch this show since the early 2000's.

It was worth the wait.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

It feels like that's what people want now and days. They are tired of going through the same motions with super hero stories and they are tired of long winded origin stories.

I don't mind a slower paced story personally, but I think I understand why they opted for this approach instead.

It's a shame they can't some day cross over this with Arrow, Flash and Legends of Tomorrow. So many DC shows on TV now, and I've heard that the folks on Arrow have adopted Constantine from his cancelled show so we'll probably see him at some point.

EDIT: And apparently some point is next week's episode, wow.

Episode 2 was much stronger than the pilot. Not shocked they went with the "learn how to be a hero" plot but they didn't drag it out and I thought they did it pretty well. I'm a little surprised they had the face to face with the main villain already, but I guess the Super-people have always been more straightforward in their plots vs. something like SHIELD. I also like that they did do some name dropping of Superman. Seems like the usage of dancing around his name was due to some personal quirks by the people involved, rather than a blanket "we don't have the rights to the name Superman" thing.

Calling it now, Director Henshaw is Martian Manhunter. I know he shares the name with Cyborg Superman but I don't see how the comic character with that name fits in with anything we know about Henshaw. Manhunter, on the other hand, has red eyes, can shapeshift, and lost his family.

The action seems a bit awkward, with the CGI a bit too noticeable. That's my only real complaint so far. The heat vision battle was pretty badass though, that's always been a thing I liked about Kryptonians. It's the scariest ability they have.

The amount of positivity on this show is off the charts. It even tops The Flash. It definitely makes the show stand out when a lot of comic book shows have gone with a darker tone. Supergirl is very upbeat and fun, almost shockingly so in this day and age.

I like that...

the mom and aunt were twins. It's interesting that she is doing battle with someone wearing the same face as someone who makes her cry.

EDIT: LOL at Cat Grant constantly referring to herself as a "girl"

She ain't fooling anyone

For anyone who doesn't have Starz, you can watch episode 1 of Ash vs Evil Dead here for free:

Oh thank goodness. I was worried I wouldn't get to watch this since I don't have Starz.

I've never met anyone who actually does have Starz.
